Designed for frigid water and roiling rapids.

The Kokatat Men's Gore-Tex Icon Limited Edition Drysuit should be the first thing you reach for when you're finally packing for your Alaskan kayak/hike escapade. Sixmile Creek drops over 50 feet per mile as it races out of the Chugach Mountains, hammers through three different canyons, has rapids named "Suckhole" and "Jaws," and is nothing but frigid and fresh Alaskan run-off. While the water might be colder than the Yeti's tush, you'll be toasty and dry in this supple and seemingly bomb-proof dryuit.

Evolution nylon is just a front for the 3-layer Gore-Tex Pro laminate that keeps you dry, both from the creek water and the anxiety-induced sweat as you hear the roar of the next set of rapids long before you see them. Latex neck and wrist gaskets create watertight seals, and you can trim the neck gasket for a comfortably custom fit. Neoprene neck and wrist over-cuffs ensure water stays away so long as you limit your trimming to the latex (neck) gasket only.

Should you end up in the drink and need to crawl out of the creek, Cordura Gore-Tex on the legs, shoulders, and arms keeps you  from wrecking your drysuit, while integrated Gore-Tex socks protect all your little piggies from becoming wet toe-sicles. The dual-adjustable overskirt has hook-and-loop compatible neoprene to work with your spray skirt so water stays out of the cockpit. The front relief zipper means you can see a man about a horse without stripping all the way down.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I was a little hesitant at first in purchasing a rear entry dry suit. I did know that there were 4 important things that I wanted in suit. Durability, the Kokatat name, gore-tex, and a relief zipper. This suit lives up to all of those. Kokatat is known to be some of the most durable dry suits on the market and their service after the sale is amazing from what I have heard. I haven't needed to use their service center yet, but I know I'll be taken care of when I do. DON'T be hesitant to get a rear entry dry suit. They are easier than you think for getting in and out of by yourself. With a little bit of practice you will be zipping up and unzipping by yourself in no time, even if you aren't that flexible. The rear zip allows for a better mate to your skirt tunnel since there is no zipper to possibly interfere with a seal. It did take a little getting used to having the zipper across the back of your shoulders when you are paddling, but it wasn't a major issue. The fabric has been extremely durable, I have had over 50 days in it last season and it is still going strong. As with any quality piece of gear, if you take care of it, it will last you for years to come. Just don't forget to 303 the latex seals when you store it for the off season.

I'm 5'8", 170 and the medium fit me perfect. I had to trim the neck gasket just a smidge, but the wrists were fine untrimmed. I was fortunate to never have a wet day on the river, nor have I had to use the service center yet.
