Just like its bestselling big brother.

Kelty scaled down its bestselling pack, so you can enjoy the same comfort and convenience of an overnighter with the smaller capacity of the Redwing 32 Backpack. Perfect for gear-heavy day trips, travel, or light 'n' fast overnights, the Redwing has an HDPE framesheet that provides lightweight support for quick trips alongside a breathable Hex Mesh on the back panel, shoulder straps, and hip belt. You can also tuck the hip belt away if you don't need it when you're slimming down your load for a quick trip to the summit.

Kelty built the Redwing 32 with lightweight polyester and reinforced key zones to keep it strong for many years. A full-access U-zipper allows you to access the backpack through the top and side compression straps to make sure your gear doesn't bounce around while you hike. The Redwing 32 also features a hydration-compatible sleeve that doubles as a laptop holder when you're in town.

    Zippers

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Perfect side bag for what I needed. Plenty of pockets/compartments for organizing, but the zippers get stuck every time you open or try to close the bag. And the top small compartment has a key holder that gets caught in the zipper track line that's a pain to fix.

Do not buy , poor quality zippers

I returned my previous bag, because of poor quality zipper. This replacement bag, the zipper is stuck on the key holder , it been more than 30 days . Now , I am stuck with a broken bag. I took a chance that the zipper was a fluke . Nope , it just poorly made zippers.

      Perfect pack

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This pack is a great weekend pack. It has so many little stash pockets, and they are easy to get to when the pack it full. I love the full zipper on the main pocket, I see this pack and I going places.

      Sick Pack!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The Redwing 32 has so many great features. For starters it has so many different pockets to meet the organizational needs for all the small pieces of gear you'll take. The mesh and padding on the back and straps are very comfortable and breathable as well. I at first had concerns with the mesh style on the back possibly tearing but it has turned out to be a very durable material. The outside material is very durable as well and quite easy to clean after dusty trips. I have used this pack from school use to hiking and snowshoeing and have found this pack to be a great asset for every adventure.

      Well Organized. Great fit.

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This pack is well organized and is a great day hiking pack. I like the fact that the pack has plenty of zipper compartments. The padding system is great and the mesh allows for quicker whicking of sweat. I've worn it twice and it really fits well and rides well.

      Great looking pack

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

Unfortunately, I did not understand the dimensions very well and had to end up returning it because it was smaller than I needed it. But, just looking at the pack I could tell it was a very versatile backpack that could be taken on hiking adventures, daily excursions, and just a useful backpack around the office or home. It seemed to also be very well built for traveling. Wish I could've gone out and used it but I had to return it for a larger pack. Anyone looking for a multi-day pack (2-5 night) should look to the larger 44 or 50-liter packs. I would estimate that this 32 liter is good for a one night, maybe two night, excursion. Great for traveling and day hiking, not so much for multi-day. The reason why I gave it 5 stars is because I know it was not made for multi-day hikes but was hoping it would still have enough pocket space to do so.

      Great Backpack for anything

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This backpack is awesome for a smaller backpacking pack or camp trip. I have a larger Kelty backpack that is almost 10 years old and still has nothing wrong with it to this day. I have every reason to believe this pack will be just as durable.

      Very versatile

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've owned this pack for a year and a half, and have used it almost daily during that entire time. Much of the time, it has pulled duty as my work/travel pack, but there have been plenty of other excursions thrown in.

The long and short of it? I love this pack.

The organization is a real standout, as I can keep power cords, pens, folders, and laptop all in their specific places. Specific features that I really like are:

      A. Wrap around main zipper. It acts like a top-load pack when that's all you need, but can also be zipped completely down the front for access to deep depths of the compartment.

B: Stowable waistbelt. Frankly, I never use a waistbelt on a pack this small, so it's great to be able to keep it out of the way.

C: Shove-it space behind front pocket. It is very convenient. The perfect place to throw a jacket, hat, or a book while travelling. The pack fits under an airplane seat comfortably.

The pack material has proven very durable. It barely even shows a scuff, let alone any significant wear spots. I also really like the mesh used on the suspension. The padding is very supportive, and the open mesh is very breathable. That being said, I could see how some folks might find it a bit too rough for their tastes, since it is so open.

Lastly, I Love the Ponderosa Pine color. It's a very nice, rich green.

      Very versatile

      Great Bag

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love this Kelty bag, its lightweight and small, but can hold enough gear and food for a few days.
I currently use this to hold all of my climbing gear in and works great. I have my rope in its own bag, if I didn't,this bag might not be big enough.
Overall It is a well made bag that I can see lasting for quite a while with the right care. (I own a Kelty Redcloud 5600 that is about 12 years old and has lots of miles on and is still in great shape.)The only downfall I see that could take place, is the mesh that is on the straps and back pad area of the pack looks like it could rip pretty easy. The mesh does pick up sticks and leaves pretty easily when you lay it down.

      Not Bad, But Going Downhill

I've always loved Kelty -- their name was always synonymous with "value" as they always made affordable but quality gear. But I have to say, every generation of packs from them seems to be a step down from the last.

I have some of their gear from decades ago and it was stellar, but they just don't feel the same. I have a previous-gen 2014 Redwing 50 and it was a great bag, but it could not support much weight and the internal lining wore through quite quickly, but the exterior was still built with solid material. I saw the new 32 and figured I'd give it a shot since it looked nice and I wouldn't be putting much weight in this for an everyday commuting pack. The new poly material feels light and cheap, and the new hex-foam padding is very abrasive (which is why they usually put the foam inside other material or behind mesh). Also, the zippers aren't very fluid, particularly the front compartment pouch; there is a hidden grab-handle on the front of the pack, but the way it is sewn in protrudes behind the zipper and prevents the zipper from easily gliding over it. Also, the handle at the top of the pack keeps brushing the back of my head, which is getting annoying...

The bag is fairly comfortable and functional overall. It's basically a great $40 bag for $100.

Sorry I can't say nicer things about this, but the new Redwing line seems to be falling short of the previous generation. Kelty seems to want to retain their crown as the "best buy" of the backpacking world, but honestly I'd rather have them jack up their prices a little rather than use low-quality materials. It's too bad -- the Redwings would be a near perfect design if they just used better parts and invested more time in their harness system/fitting. I hope they improve over time...

        Great Day Pack

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Have the Redwing 32 in twilight blue and love it! Has enough room to hold supplies for a day as well as some camera gear. Would recommend it everyone
