Provides shade from the sun and shelter from the elements.
Don't leave your outdoor plans to the fickle whims of Mother Nature. Take the Kelty Cabana with you to the beach, music festival, or tailgating and watch how your crew becomes the center of the neighborhood. Super beach-friendly, this portable, three-sided shelter helps keep you and your friends nice and dry. Sand bag stakes can be used on the beach, and guyout points secure the Cabana to the ground or nearby trees when camping. The Cabana also has closeable privacy panels and a closeable front when you want to shut out the outside world for a quick nap.

Nice but tears easily
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I got this sunshade about a year ago and just used it for the first time this summer.
Pros: It folds down very nicely, decent size for 3-4 people on low beach chairs, lightweight, stays put with just stakes and a couple of sandbags even with fairly gusty wind, nice wind shelter as well as shade, 1 person can easily assemble it.
Cons: The very first time I assembled it, both of the fabric pole slots tore when I threaded the "short poles" through them at the stress point where the "long pole" crosses them, and I was threading them through pretty carefully. Although it doesn't affect the performance of the shade once it's assembled, it does make for a tricky assembly and the tears have been getting progressively worse. On a sunny day the cabana can be a bit of an oven even with the windows and front flap open and it is sometimes so hot inside that it's more pleasant to sit outside in direct sunlight. Lastly, the poles can be challenging to disassemble if they get sand in the joints (happens often at the beach).
Overall it's been a good little shelter and serves as a nice "home base" for us at the beach, which is the only place I've used it but have done so several times now. If any designers are reading this, please consider reinforcing the thin fabric pole slots at the stress points!
So far so great
We have used this shelter a few times now. We have a toddler and an infant so a shade is necessary when out in the heat. It takes a little longer to set up than I'd like but we knew what we were getting into and opted for bigger rather than easier. The only thing I would change is making it a tad bit taller. It runs just a tiny bit short of me being able to stand up in it.
Put your feet up
Tried this out for a weekend trip to Moab, and it wasn't what were were looking for. This would be great at the beach, or at a park where you'll be sitting or lounging , but if you want something you can stand underneath, I'd look at a tarp setup. This is about 4 1/2 feet high at the apex, and was basically redundant in shade coverage to our tent. It does pack up small, and the included backpack straps on the bag make it convenient to carry.
King of Shade
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
Got this for my trip to Maui in July. It was forecast to be sunny the entire time and my wife requested some shade for our long days on the beach. I picked this up because I liked the design and simplicity. It comes packaged in a nice tote bag with backpack straps and packed small enough to fit in my luggage. I used it 5 of 7 days on the beach, and by the last day I was able to set it up in under 5 minutes. We enjoyed the spacious floor plan and spread out our gear for maximum relaxation. I did figure out that if it is too close to the shore during high tide, it is going to get a bit wet, and sandy. But hey, its the beach. I also determined it was best to find some rocks to put on the corners and weigh down against the sea breeze. I was pleased with how it held up to 15mph winds, but much more would have been a bit of a struggle without guy wires. I look forward to using this on my dessert trips and other venues. Would recommend it to mountain and beach folk alike.
How tall/high is it when set up?
The interior height of this tent is 53 inches.
