Big Shady Shelter

The Big Shady is Kelty's largest sun shelter for five or more campers to seek shady refuge on a sunny day. It has an original shape designed to maximize coverage from sunlight and light rain showers alike. Kelty treated the sun-shielding fabric to bead raindrops down the fabric for reliable water-resistance. Its non-freestanding setup includes a lightweight aluminum pole and stiffer steel poles at the front for rugged sturdiness, and the guylines and stakes are surprisingly simple to set up. Kelty sized the inside for six chairs and a table.

Worth the effort

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Set up is a bit tricky but simple. Takes several people to strategically hold parts up, but it's not complicated at all. What makes this shade so badass is that is stretches downward, therefore the inside stays shady no matter where the sun is. With E-Z Ups you get the shade from the cover moving all around, but you'll stay shaded the entire day in this thing. Lots of room inside for plenty of people, chairs, coolers, etc.

Group shade

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Took this on a desert river trip through Desolation Canyon and it was clutch for combating the beating afternoon sun. Comfortably fits you plus several friends, provides great shade, and maintains adequate airflow so you don't feel like you're baking in a sauna. Stood up well to moderate wind and has many stake out points. It was a bit of a group effort to setup but well worth it.

The Perfect Shelter

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Took this on a climbing / Camping trip and it was so great to have. There was not a lot of shade where we were so this was great to sit under and cool off after routes. The downside is the bag is bulky and was kind of a pain to lug around. Other than that I love it and it is great to have around!

Kelty Big Shady

This thing is Rad. It has amazing sun protection at most angles. It's tall enough that a 6' person can walk straight through without ducking. And if you fully guy it and stake it, 35-40 mph wind gusts broadside are no problem as I experienced first-hand in Cortez.
