I did research on Keen boots (my better half is an avid hiker and those are his choice), most reviews indicated they are "true to size." I am a Wms size 8, I ordered an 8.5 and my feet couldn't completely fit in the boot. I bought them for our Macchu Picchu hike in July 2020 (hopefully) and there is no way they are "true to size." Thank goodness I ordered them early. They are not good straight out of the box like some reviews. They didn't seem comfortable, very clunky and stiff. I think I will stick to Solomons.

Hurt my feet after one use
Tried these as a potential replacement for the Merrill's I returned b/c they were too high on the back of my achilles (which I returned before wearing), and in lieu of the Oboz Bridgers that were too narrow, and at first I thought I had a winner. They were comfortable around the house, fit really nicely all over, and seem to be made very well! They were also really cool looking -- loved the colors. They felt a little stiff, almost moon-boot'ish, but I thought I was finally done boot shopping and took them out for a walk: 6 miles on mostly paved trail. The first thing I noticed, at about the halfway mark, was that my arches did not have enough support. I have somewhat flat feet (fallen arches) and I pronate, and it got worse with every step. By the time I finished, I couldn't wait to get them off. The footbed is very firm, almost NO padding, and you don't notice it much at first, but when you walk a bit, you sure do! My feet hurt, especially my arches, for a couple of days afterwards, so after briefly considering buying replacement footbed inserts, I decided I'd just return them. I still hoped to find an Oboz that would work, because their footbed is PERFECT for my feet. I have the Sawtooth hiking shoes, and have always loved them, so I sucked it up and spent the extra $$ and that's what I ended up with, and they are BLISS. All that said, these are cool boots, they just aren't good for people who have sensitive arches or who pronate and want a more supportive and cushiony footbed.

I was a bit wary that these boots would be too wide for me since I don't have a particularly wide foot, but I was pleasantly surprised with how well they fit. I have tons of room for movement in the toe-box, but my ankle and heel are held so securely that it was not an issue. I was worried that while walking downhill my foot would slide forward into that extra space, but this was not the case at all. I've been using these for short day hikes in the canyons near Salt Lake City. We're slowly gearing into spring here so I've encountered the occasional snow and or mud patch, but with the waterproof leather and awesome tread on these boots I had no issues.

I gave these as a gift for Christmas. Haven't heard any complaints.

Great fitting boots
I need a wide toe box due to bunions. These boots have plenty of comfortable room, and my feet do not slide when descending steep terrain. Tread on bottom provides excellent grip.

I bought these boots for hiking during the summer but I am currently using them as a second pair of snow boots here in Michigan. They are waterproof and with some warm socks have been keeping my feet warm. I usually wear a 10 in womens but I decided to but a 10.5. They fit perfectly and I have enough room in the front of the shoe for my toes. These boots are very comfortable and have kept my feet dry and warm in cold, slushy snow. I like the reflective stitching and color on the boots.

Love these boots!
Took these on a 7 mile hike the day after I bought them and couldn't have been happier. Unbelievably comfortable right out of the box and not a single blister. Since then, these boots have carried me many more miles. Totally waterproof, which I majorly appreciated living in the Pacific Northwest. These will keep your feet dry and toasty in snow and rain. Not the best ankle support, as others have mentioned, but if that's not a huge criteria for you, I can't recommend these boots enough!

Wore these Keen boots on a 5 day hike right out of the box! Had a slightly sore spot by big toe after day one but put on mole skin and adjusted the laces with no more issues. Comfortable and durable.

Great keen hikers
I am all about affordable. I wait for the colors to be discontinued to buy. Comfortable and fit true to size. I decided to go up half because I wanted to wear wool socks. There is a lot of shoe here, as someone used to minimalist hikers, but it does provide that extra protection needed on rough terrain. These don't slip in the heels like the lower cut keen hikers.

I took these on a quick weekend hike to break them in before taking them to Iceland. They're great! So comfortable right out of the box. They're also fully waterproof. My friends both had water-resistant hiking shoes, and their feet were soaked by the end of our hike (crossed a lot of creeks). I thought I would be irritated by the ankle height, but I wasnt at all. They're pretty clunky, though, from a purely aesthetic point of view. I'm usually a 7.5, sized up to an 8. With the right socks and properly trimmed toenails, they're perfect.

Another Loving Customer
Anytime you come across this many positive reviews of a product, you can be reasonably sure your money will be well spent. I picked these up for my girlfriend who was in search of a supportive shoe/boot for getting outside as well as everyday use. The fit was true to size and she reported that they were comfortable right out of the box. The color options are cute, but understated. Overall count us another happy customer.

Kind of bummed
I've spent the last two summers working and hiking in Denali National Park and I need a new pair of mid boots to support my ankles. I read great reviews for this shoe on backcountry and recently loved the keen venice h2 sandals that I purchased. I decided to buy the shoes. For starters you have to pay for shipping to AK-- because I feel loyal to backcountry I purchased the shoes from them and paid for shipping. I took these shoes on one 5 mile hike-- not long but very steep-- and was bummed out. These shoes hurt my feet no matter how I tied them. I'm 5'2" and a size 8, though I always buy 8.5 for hiking shoes. I have a wide foot and I felt like the structure of the shoe didn't focus as much on arch support as cushioning. The ascent hurt but the descent was brutal. My toes were jamming in the front of the shoe even though I bought the extra half size up. The shoe felt too narrow mid foot and with a mile to go I switched to my h2 sandals to keep from getting toe blisters. Ankle support was great. Now I have to pay for shipping to return my shoes to backcountry and I will be paying for shipping for the exchanges to come. If you live in Alaska, I'd recommend buying on Amazon because if your product doesn't work you're going to be out $60 for brand loyalty.

This boot is amazing! My feet swell after long hikes, so I bought a half size up. I have weak ankles, and sadly this boot doesn't have too much in the way of ankle support. I did have to return them for that reason, otherwise I would have kept them!

Did not disappoint!
My husband and both teenage sons own this boot. It was mom's turn and I did not hesitate to order this style since my husband is in his second pair. Comfortable from the get go. I'm wearing them for short walks around the neighborhood only to break in the stiffness of the ankle a bit before a longer hike. Love the color combo!

Love them! No blisters
I bought these boots to go on a weekend back country hiking trip with my boyfriend. I did a lot of research before purchasing a pair, and these were the boots with the best reviews I found. They are AMAZING. I wore them a couple times before the trip to break them in, and it wasn't necessary. I would not have survived the weekend without them. We were hiking some rough terrain, and I came out with zero blisters or aches. I even slipped on some rocks into the creek (gracefully) and my feet remained dry! I definitely would have rolled my ankle without these boots on the down hill section of our hike. All in all I am extremely pleased! I recommend ordering a size up and lacing them tight. I usually wear a 7 - 71/2 and I ordered an 8.

Best Boot Ever
I have had my Keen boots for 6 yrs now - I wear them fall, winter and spring for hiking, snowshoeing and they are the best - from day one fit like a glove - worth every penny and 6 years later still look new -

Moms boots needed an update
My mom was needing some new boots and I heard these were good. I did hear they ran a little small, so I bought her a half size up and they worked out great! They don't provide a ton of ankle support, but they are comfortable, and good for most terrain.

I wore them backpacking in Shenandoah (before all the wildfire...). I usually get heel pain after hiking but they helped with that. I did get some blisters though. They also make my already big feet look humongous :0 Overall, they're an ok boot. I wouldn't buy them again, but I didn't send them back either.

I wrote a review on these when I got them and wore them around a bit. That review still stands. Awesome boot. I did however take them on a 5 hour winter hike so I have more to add. I took them up Mount Osceola and East Osceola in New Hampshire. We just got 8 extra inches of snow on too of 5-6 inches of compacted snow. They fit amazing and the spikes fit over the boot. This was the first real usage of this pair over a 9 mile hike. The only downside is they are not as waterproof as I would like. However I realized this going in to the hike and still wanted to put them to the test. I did not get a single blister so I am overall impressed with them. They will make great summer/fall boots but are not for winter hikes. They feel amazing and my feet were not sore at all just cold/wet.

Great seasonal hikers
My Keen's just came in. Amazing boot. They fit true to size I am an 8womens or an 8.5 so I erred on the side of caution and got the 8.5. They fit amazing and are great because I have very wide, flat feet and there is plenty of room. Soft/comfortable feel on the inside. Very lightweight which is awesome. I compared them to my winter rated boots. I think they will do well in spring, summer and fall but I'm not feeling as much warmth so I will use my old ones this winter season. Overall amazing boot and I can't wait til New Hampshire weather changes so I can use them. Very pleased that I don't have to break them in. They feel like they were made for my foot and they should be just the right weight/warmth for summer/fall hikes.

How does the ankle support tend to be? My only concern with these boots is a lack of ankle support, because I have a bad tendency of rolling my ankles accidentally, especially when I'm a little tired and still have miles to finish. Thanks!
July 30, 2016
Hey Joanna, Those rocks or uneven surfaces aren't our ankles friends sometimes. These will actually have a surprisingly great support system for what you're needing. The support as a mid and then some. If you're looking for a durable and comfortable boot with the support for long hikes, this one is for you.

I am 40 yrs. old and my awesome father booked a jam packed trip for he and I to go to the Grand Canyon to celebrate my "half time". Unfortunately, one month ago, I severely sprained my ankle. I am finally out of my "air Jordan boot", army girls so affectionately call it, but am still in my lace up brace. Absolutely NOTHING is standing (or gimping) in my way from enjoying this trip, however I am looking for sound advice as to a specific boot that I can wear with my brace that will keep me grounded and without a bunch-o worry on my vacation. Any serious advice would be greatly appreciated. Cost of boot or half boot is not a factor.

I'm looking for a water-proof mid trail-running shoe. Can you run in these?
May 18, 2010
Not to redirect you from Keen or anything, these are an awesome hiking shoe, but The North Face Hedgehog Mid GTX XCR or the Montrail Hardrock Mid '09 GTX (TNF2845,MON0104)are a little more centered towards running than what Keen has, plus they are both Gore Tex and therefore guaranteed to be waterproof.
July 4, 2010
I've only worn them once but did some running along the trail and found them quite comfortable. I went a half size up to accomodate a thicker sock and they fit very well and are extremely light weight.

you'll need an insole, but this is probably true for most hiking boots if you have a high arch.
