Gift

I got these as a gift because my sister loves them, she claims they "changed her life". In my opinion, they are uglier in person than what they are in the picture

LOL! Loved your comment. I agree, they're ugly. But they are the only hiking/biking/kayaking all weather sturdy sandal with arch support I have found. I can leave all other footwear behind when I travel. There are definitely better looking options if you plan to just walk around in them. But nothing beats their versatility when it comes to outdoor activities!

Function over style

Familiarity:
I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Gave as gift: Let's be honest, these shoes are not the most attractive but they sure are functional. The lace system keeps these really secure on your feet. I found them really comfortable even when they were wet and they were good to hike in. Fit was true to size and they were really adjustable for narrow feet.

I bought a pair of these roughly 7 years ago and still wear them. I wanted a new color. These are even more comfy then ever.

Awesome!

We bought these for our babysitter as a thank you gift and she absolutely loves them. She told us " I've worn them everyday so far this summer and they are comfy and yet still provide my feet protection. I feel like I can do anything in them"

Casual Water Shoe

If you are in a wet environment and need to traverse some land these are a great option. Not ideal for long hikes without breaking them in but, they have a robust build. Bought this with the use of river trips and camping in mind. The covered toe box is an extra advantage if you are looking to hike with them or walk in water as no one likes a stubbed toe!

My Chacos of 6 years finally broke down and I needed new shoes. I bought these for my 10 day trip to Mexico, where we hiked the ruins, trails, and dove in the cenotes. These were perfect and honestly preferable to the Chaco sandals because they dried quickly after they got wet and I always felt supported during my hikes. The plus side is that they are super light compared to the Chaco sandals. I highly recommend them! Oh and even though the extra support in the front toe area is not the most attractive, I found that it was worth it because I often hike in rocky areas. Since then, I've hiked in pretty normal trails around North Carolina. I'd be eager to see how they hold up on the next trip.

Walking in the jungle

Got these for my girl for our trip to the Napali Coast in Hawaii and she loved them. They were supportive enough for her foot but didn't create any hot-spots on the 11 mile hike. There worked great when we were walking through mud, and sand. And easily washed out when you came across a stream. She loves them and will be taking them to Myanmar for her next trip.

Small issues

Had them for a month and one of the front straps came out from the sole . Would have been replaced by Backcountry however we where out of the US to long. Pity as they are cool shoes

I got these shoes for a seven day canoe trip in the Boundary Waters with the hope they would be a great alternative to having wet boots all day. For the most part, I liked them a lot - only on portages with pebbly landings was I sad about them. But, they started falling apart on day three! The straps started tearing, and the sole started delaminating, which I wasn't super impressed with.

I really like these shoes because I've broken bones in my ankle and feet in the past and these shoes keep my toes protected, along with the support I need for my ankles. I originally bought them to wear in the baths at Virgin Gorda on a recent cruise, however I found myself wearing them to get on and off the ship in every port we were at. I do love flip-flops but these shoes provide me with a level of safety knowing that my bare feet won't get stepped on in crowds. They are true to size and snug, but in a good way. I have a feeling I will wear them often this summer on Martha's Vineyard.

These are my first pair of Keens, and I love them! They're comfortable, they're versatile, and they pack well. Originally, I bought them for a trip to Costa Rica, but I've worn them so much more than I expected. They're great for the trails, the water, and even around town... anytime I know that I'll be on my feet for a long while, these are the shoes for me.

I was looking for a similar shoe for quite some time before I bought these. Even though I couldn't try one on locally, this shoe is true to size. I could stay in them all day long, which I may do! They are snug to get on, but that's good because they don't move, and I have plenty of room in the toe. Yet, they are easy to take off. I HIGHLY recommend this shoe.

These have lasted me almost a full year now with more to go! These have been through miles and miles of walking through Japan and also hiking in Haleakala in Hawaii! I honestly also use these for running, as they have good support for my wide and flat feet. Only drawback is that they tend to stink after a while. I can easily spray these down with a hose when I get home and they are as good as new but they make my feet stink and are sticky after a long day. Easily fixable when wearing socks but still annoying. The only signs of wear are color degradation and the front inside rubber where my feet hit each other is cracking a bit, but I don't see this affecting wear for another year or so. Hoping to buy a second pair soon, I love these so much! I wear these instead of sneakers!

These Keen's are seriously my favorite thing in my closet. I wear them biking, hiking, golfing, running errands- you name it. I have pretty wide and flat feet, so shoe support is really important to me. I could wear them every day if it didnt get cold out. They are super easy to wash and I havent seen any damage to them. At first I thought they were a little too big, but as I walk around (especially hiking in the heat or through some water) my feet tend to swell up a bit and they fit perfectly. I think I would be nervous to size down.

My first pair of Keen sandals were a size 8.5 and it was a couple years before I saw signs of wear and tear. This pair I purchased was size 9.5 (comfortable with a pair of thick wool socks) so in the last 6 years the sizing has changed. This pair replaced a pair of Keens that I returned after less than one season of use because they were coming unstitched. This new pair has done some hiking in the Mt St Helens area late this season and I hope they last at least a couple years. Also, a great pair of shoes for river fording - that's why I keep buying them!

My wife loves her Keens! She can wear these all day long with no blisters or problems of any kind. Her only advice, besides to buy these sandals, is to remember to rinse them off after sandy or salt water trips because that can get abrasive on your feet. But she loves getting out there with these sandals!

why do I need the socks if i'll be in the water?

Hey marilyn, Thanks for your question. I would not recommend socks if you will be in water.

Yo Marilyn, I don't mean to stick my nose in other people's business, and I'd never doubt a BC.com gear guru (they are always right!), but in case you you are interested.... If the kind of water you are in involves walking in streams with lots of sand and small rocks for any distance, it's easy to get abrasions on your toes when wearing sandals. That's about the only case I'd recommend socks - but not your normal sock... In this case I'm a fan of neoprene socks to keep the debris out and also add a little warmth if your hiking down a cold wet canyon!

Louise, I would recommend the Keen Newport H2 or the Keen Venice (H2) for the best arch supprt.

I need a pair of water shoes for water aerobics...does anyone have experience with the Newport for that use?

I would not recommend these for aqua fitness. These shoes take a while to dry and are a little too clunky - good for walking over rocks but heavy and annoying for aqua-fit. I've tried swimming in these shoes and they cause a lot of drag. I would recommend a small neoprene water shoe over these.

I have higher arches. I read somewhere else that the Venice sandal might be better for high arches. Any thought on this?

Hey Meghan, You are correct! The Newport H2 sandle has what is called a Metatomical Footbed Design, which means that there is an internal support mechanism that is anatomically engineered to provide excellent arch support and cradle the natural contour of the foot.

I have high arches and also have heal pain at times. Which model would be better for me? The Newport H2 or Venice H2?

I have high arches and the Newport H2 works best for me. I have hiked in them. My foot moved around in the Venice H2 too much. The extra strap on the Newport held my foot in place.

Hey, I'm going to Costa Rica for 17 days! Looking for a pair of sandals/shoes like these Keen Newport H2 Sandal. How true to size do they fit? I normally wear an 8 but considering purchasing 7.5 if they might stretch a bit when wet??

Hello Keiko, KEEN sandals run small, I would recommend a 8.5, they will not stretch when they get wet. Jerry

Go try some on in a store. I'm a 71/2 to 8 M shoe. I did get the 8 b/c I didn't want my toe hitting the rubber top constantly. They are a bit big and definitely wide, but not too much to get the smaller size. I wish keen would make a true B width-the whisper is way too narrow (more like a size A width), and the venice & newport are about 1/2 in. too wide.

>Rating:

How's the fit if one has narrow feet?

How's the fit if one has narrow feet?

It depends on how narrow your foot is, KEEN Makes several models. For women the narrowest is the Whipser about a B width, for men It's the Kreek or Kanyon about a C width. The nice thing about KEEN is that The Newport, Newport H2, Whisper, Kreek and the Kanyon all are low volume. This means if you look at your foot and if it looks flat on top of your foot thats low volume. So sometimes you could have a narrow foot but have High to medium volume and the KEEN would still work. Jerry

I wear a AA shoe and wear both the Newport H2 and Whisper. The Whisper is the narrowest, but the H2 is also quite comfortable; the fit of both styles can be adjusted with the elastic lacing. Neither style looks or wears "wide." I walk my dogs on uneven ground every day and the Newport H2 is great for all but rainy days. Love it!

I mainly hike...sometimes in rough areas. As far as water, I'm rarely in it unless I have to rock hop over a creek. Would this be a durable sandal for hiking or do I need to consider another version of Keens? I have the Keen hiking boot and absolutely love it. There is no other fit like it. I wear them to work and when I hike and even when I'm in the barn with the horses. It's a shoe I love to wear. They clean up so easy.

These would be fine for hiking as long as you're feet are used to them and you've broken them in. My kids just did the Delicate Arch hike in them and they did great.

I am looking to buy either the Newport H2 or the Venice H2 sandal, however, I need to know if performance wise are they similar or what makes them so different that people buy one from the other?

Hi Kate, the Newport is more supportive then the Venice, an extra webbing strap wraps around the foot... the Venice is more casual and easier to slip on/off... other then that they are the same shoes!

Kaia, I suppose you can run in these they aren't exactly built for that..support wise but no reason you can't. I would caution you to avoid uneven ground where the lateral stability of your ankles will be tested..Since this shoe isn't designed the same as a true running shoe and you might be more likely to roll an ankle. But as long as your careful give it a go..

NO! it is not for running. for running you need a running shoes!
