The missing piece of the puzzle.

Summer just isn't the same without the Keen Kids' Newport H2 Sandal. This ultra-versatile adventure sandal is equipped to handle a wide range of outdoor activities, from going nuts on the playground and hiking through the woods to summer camp and beach vacations. Its quick-drying upper doesn't mind going for a swim or splashing through streams, and the protective rubber toe cap shields toes from bashes and bonks. The Metatomical footbed provides arch support and matches the contours of the foot for all-day active comfort. The secure lace system is quick and easy to use, and the lining dries rapidly for greater comfort. Keen rounded it out with a multi-directional lugged rubber sole that ensures traction on everything from rocky hiking trails to slippery docks.

    Great shoe for adventures!

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

My little dude loves these shoes. He calls them his river shoes. We use them on short hike or where ever there may be a chance to play in the water.

Bought these for my Nephew for the summer; they are going to be great and just right for our summer hikes and his days spent playing outside.

    Second pair

This purchase was my second one for my boy. He loved the first so much, he tried to wear them when they were far too small for his feet. Got him a new pair and they're all he wants to wear.

    Love these shoes

These are my most favorite pair of sandals I have ever bought for any of my 4 boys. They are absolutely adorable on my 2 year old. The neutral brown goes with everything. They are perfect for water activities and have been super easy to get on and off. I especially like how the ankle strap allows for a loose or snug fit.

Bought for my 8 year old son. The older kids and mom get chacos, but for the younger ones, we go for Keens. I love the protective toe box. He loves the versatility and jumping into streams without a second thought. Very comfortable. Took a little while to break in with 1-2 blisters, but worth the continued commitment. Great summer shoe!

    Definitely Keen on Keen.

See what I did there? Perfect summer sandal for the little ones. Comfortable, easy to put on, and easy to secure on with the velcro strap. I've bought a pair every summer for my nephew to keep up with him growing year. Trick to keeping them fresh: coat the sole inside with some baking soda at least overnight, throw them in the wash, then back out and baking soda again. Obviously you can't really think that they WON'T stink.. but they don't stink that bad and when you do, this is the trick to get them ready to go again like brand new.

I'm in love with these shoes. I have a four year old, and each year as his foot grows, I buy a new pair. They are so incredibly easy to take on and off (so easy that he can do it himself). They are durable. After an entire season of being worn everyday they are still in good enough shape to be passed down to his younger brother. And as if that wasn't enough they have a closed toe which is essential for any little one.

    Defective velcro closure

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

We are a committed Keens-for-little-boys family. Our twin sons live in them 9 months out of the year. We bought a pair of the Keen Newport H2s in green in mid-June for our 4yo. It's now August and the velcro closure at the ankle has completely worn away and no longer keeps closed. Every other pair of Keens we've purchased have never had this problem. My son didn't even wear them all that frequently--and every other pair has been put through the wringer and are still useable. These Keen H2's are no longer wearable, and are a bit dangerous at this point because the ankle straps dangle on the ground when my son runs and plays. If I pay $50 for a pair of kids' shoes, I want them to be wearable for more than 6 weeks. These are crappy shoes. And I wish they weren't.

    Stinky feet alert!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

My first pair of Keens were Newprot H2 Kids' because I have midget-y size 6 feet and the Kids' model (kids' size 3) was significantly cheaper. I went on to own a couple of pair of Adult size 5.5 and size 6 Keen Venice sandals that I enjoyed.

The Kids' keens, however, do not have quality footbed material and the result is no-good, very bad, super-smelly feet. My good friend and fellow short person made the same mistake and we both ended up tossing the shoes before they were worn out because the stench required frequent washing and even then, it lingered. To be fair, my shoes saw a lot of use and still looked great, they were very tough.

If you're an adult, spring for the adult model!

    'Killer Keens'!

My son calls these his killer keens. Makes him feel pretty cool wearing these and the fact I can wash the dirt off, easily, is another plus. I've only had these a few weeks but we have got them dirty doing all kinds of cool stuff and I can't wait for him to camp and hike in these! It's nice to be able to see your kid slip his shoes on and off without a struggle. He thinks that's pretty cool to. Doesn't complain about the fit or straps, discomfort in anyway, seems comfy. Sometimes those pesky wood chips are a bummer but they are sandals and expected.

He is 4, wears a 11.5 street shoe and has these in 11. The 12 was huge. The 11 gas a great fit and will let him grow into them perfectly.

My daughter wears these all spring and summer. Yes they do get a bit stinky after a season of wear but that's to be expected. Great in water and on hikes. We couldn't do summer without these.

    great shoe

Bought these for my nephew, since the shoes are whole sizes only & his shoe size is 10/10.5, I went with size 11 & they fit him quite well. Even with a little room to grow, his foot doesn't slide around at all. This will be a nice shoe for him now (spring) thru autumn. He loves them.

There was some issue with that add. The Crocus color pictured in that add should have been $25. It is now at that price. If you see something like that in future give us a call or chat and we can take care of that price for you.

SALE 50% OFF! KEEN Newport H2 Sandal - Kids'

Yep, on the Crocus. That is true enough.

But, I'm really not impressed with this dubious and somewhat deceptive business practice of advertising a sale only to find out the 'sale' does not apply to the majority of shoes, but rather exclusively to one singled-out color. I find this insulting and in poor taste, and reflective of a business model that attempts to fool or mislead the customer. If one shoe is on sale, then state that clearly and honestly. If this practice continues you will lose a customer in me, as I find this offensive and quite unnecessary. I think Backcountry is underestimating the intelligence of its customer base.

If i were a killer whale and these shoes were a nice juicy seal. I would just swim by, and let the seal continue frolicking about in the cool coastal waters.

That's how much I respect and admire these shoes.

What is the difference between the Newport and the Newport H2? Does one wear better than the other for kids/boys?

Since I am buying Keen shoes for my toddler and his feet are still growing, is it possible to order one US size bigger and not have it be too big? He is a toddler 8 now.

Absolutely! I just bought my daughter a size 9 and she is still an 8 and they work great now with room to grow. They strap around the ankle well so even though they are still big in the toe they still work. I would get a size bigger so he can wear them longer.

what is the difference between kids and youth sizes? I cannot get the chart to pull up.

Kids and Youth are the same thing Anne, I know its kind of confusing, but you're best rule of thumb is that if it doesn't say "infant or toddler" (Toddler usually has T after the shoe size) its going to be a Youth aka kids size. Hope that helps you in your searches. Cheers!
