    Where less is more.

With any activity like backpacking, hiking, climbing, or even casual use really, a heavy short that feels like a pair of drenched oversized denim pants with jars of mayonnaise in the pockets is less than ideal. Move easily and wear a stylish and durable short like the Kavu Chilli Lite Short.

I am 6'2 165 lbs so I had to get the size small waist. Because I'm apparently a freak of nature and there is no one else 8 over 6 foot with a size 32 waist, Kavu decided to make the size small with an incredibly short inseam.
Besides being unwearable due to incorrect sizing (length) that was listed on the website. Another issue is they were stiff and had hardly any stretch and were not soft. Save your money and buy something different.

I've been looking for a nice multi use short for a long time. These have just the right length with the inseam hitting me right above the knee. They are not so wide that they feel baggy, but not so narrow that they wont move with me. I have a 29 inch waist, and these seem a little loose on me but with my wide skier thighs they have a good overall fit. A great shot that seems to work with many different types of actives, so if you live in a van or like to keep your life simple these are a great addition.

These shorts are hands down the necessity for the summer. Super comfy, water resistant and a good amount of flex. Also comes with a built in belt. The front pockets are super deep, good for phones. Ton of colors to choose from, very satisfied!

    Chilli Lite Short

Loose fit, half-elastic waist short with logo shank button and fly zip, built in belt, half-moon pockets with right rear internal wallet stay, gusset, thick thread and double needle reinforced seams.

Good shorts but don’t dry quickly

First off, these shorts have very unique deep back pockets that extend completely over ones backside. They’re deep enough for a water bottle if you don’t mind all that weight in your trunk. I’ve soaked them to the bone swimming with my dog and while they didn’t dry even remotely quickly they weren’t uncomfortable to hike in wet.

This is a follow up to my previous (and more comprehensive) review.

I did in fact get another pair, just like I mentioned I might. I'm actually bumping my review up to 5 stars after having worm these for about a month. I wear them nearly everyday, and they have only gotten better. I still wish the rear pockets were shallower and the front ones were deeper, though. Also, I do have one more silly complaint. The velcro on the rear pockets is very strong. It does a great job of keeping my wallet from falling out. BUT it also does a great job of grabbing everybody's attention with the sonic boom-esk "KKRRRTTTTT" whenever I go to grab something from my back pocket.. Just kidding it's not that loud or that much of a concern, but if I'm in a quiet room I am generally pretty gentle with it.

That's about all I have to say about them. If you are looking for a great everyday short with a shorter inseam, these are them!

I have been having heck of a time finding some shorts that are a good length. I prefer mine to be on the shorter side and these are perfect. When I'm standing they sit about 3 inches above my knee. For reference, I generally am a 31 pant inseam and bought the small in these. The material is pretty nice. A bit heavier than what I am used to with most shorts, but I really prefer that with these. They are good for when you're wanting to be more casual, but still great for hiking. I've worn them on my last few hikes and have no major complaints.

My one and only complaint is the pockets. The front pockets are rather shallow, maybe like 4 inches deep. While the back pockets extend down towards the bottom of the shorts. Totally backwards from how I'd prefer 'em. It's really weird feel your wallet pressing against your leg like halfway down the thigh when you're walking or sitting. Some people might also dislike the fact that the belt is built into the shorts, but that has not given me any problems.

All in all they're great! I will most likely be getting another pair!

These Kavu shorts are money. They are def cut short gearing towards a more outdoor style of short. Though they are made of cotton, I would still be comfortable wading the river in these since they sit just above the knee.

The front pockets are fairly shallow however the back pockets make up for it by being massive. Stoked to use these this summer hiking, camping, fishing, and boating

Was super bummed that these shorts didn't work out for me. The waist was a perfect fit for me (a little loose), but the thighs were much too tight. I have tree trunks for legs from powerlifting, so I run into this problem a lot. Everything else about the shorts were money, but unfortunately have to return .

    Unanswered Question

I just bought two new pairs to replace my old chili lites which I love. But the new ones have much shallower front pockets that can’t even fit my phone, what is the reason for changing the pockets and will this problem be fixed?

What is the length of the inseam on a medium? I generally run into the problem of shorts being too long, so hoping these would fit the bill for me. 5'8", 170lb, 34-35ish waist. Have some Columbia shorts that I like that seem to have a shorter inseam...

Im just starting to get into backpacking and outdoors etc. and I am considering buying the Chilli Lite's or Patagonia Stand-Up shorts. What would be best to buy for everyday use, and use on the trails?

Either of these pants would be just fine for general/light trail use. When you start talking about backpacking, you may want to look at a more technical fabric then cotton. Here is a link to our hiking and climbing shorts pages.
