K2 says its Kwicker System is "setting the path for the future of splitboarding." We think they may be onto something. Lighter and less complicated than previous systems, the Kwicker system is designed to offset all of the splitboard's previous shortcomings. At the heart of the system is the Kwicker BC Binding. Designed to work as part of a system that includes the K2 Ultra Split board and the K2 Stark boot, the Kwicker BC binding is essentially the step-in binding re-imagined and much improved. There are no straps and highbacks; the system relies on the built-in features in the Stark boot to provide that support. Switching the setup from climb to ride mode is super-fast, and stepping into the binding is even faster―so you actually have a shot at first tracks, instead of having to ride through lines already chewed up by your skiing 'friends.' In fact, K2 estimates you'll be switched out and cutting turns in fresh powder in half the time.
The Kwicker BC Binding is machined from aluminum. This reduces weight with no compromise in durability. In fact, the system is a whopping four pounds lighter than the traditional splitboard setup, which can make a difference when you're hauling your butt up to a big line. The traditional pins have been designed out, so there are no small parts to deal with. This means you can leave your gloves on―a huge asset at the top of a wind-scoured ridgeline at 7:30 a.m. The system also boasts fewer moving parts, which means less icing and fewer things to break.
