Good Ideas, Terrible Execution
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I've never bought sunglasses at a gas station, but these are the worst sunglasses I've ever owned.
There's a lot of good ideas that Julbo had (vents, grip pads, 3d fit nose) but none of it works, not as advertised and some of it works against you.
The vents are too small to be useful unless you're standing into a wind gust. They do not provide enough ventilation to keep the lenses from fogging when you're running, particularly if you have to take them off your face when going from sections of trail that are covered by canopy to ones with direct sun exposure.
The 3D fit nose is so soft that it does not form to your nose for more than a few seconds, it just returns to its original shape and leaves you with a loose fit. This is only compounded by the material used on the nose piece, it is supposed to help grip, which it does when your skin is dry, but if you sweat it becomes so slippery that they start sliding off.
If you're going downhill it becomes nearly impossible to keep them on your face. You constantly have to press on the bridge of the glasses - like Urkel - to keep them on.
The temples are not particularly comfortable and after wearing them for some time they will dig into the top of your ears.
It may be the design, but I've never had a pair of sunglasses that seem to direct so much sweat from my forehead to the lenses, obscuring my view.
They have fallen off the top of my head and landed on the ground, while the frames and lenses did not crack the lenses did get a small chip.
In the close to 12 months I've owned these, I usually make excuses not to wear them, if I bring them with me on a run, they spend more time on top of my head than they do on my face. If these were around $35 my review would be different, but for the MSRP - and even the sales price for which I paid - they are unacceptable.
I would not recommend these, nor would I recommend any other Julbo products.
