The Jansport Big Student Backpack is the go-to pack for serious studiers.

The Jansport Big Student Backpack keeps you rollin' with old-school flavor and a refreshingly simple design. With two main compartments, this bookbag has plenty of room to separate your theory of evolution and creationism textbooks. S-curved shoulder straps won't chafe your shoulder blades as you power walk across campus, and the fully padded back panel protects your spine from Moby Dick. Stash your pens, pencils, and gum in the top zippered accessory pocket for quick retrieval. The front pocket organizers handily stash your cell phone and calcumalator, and a headphone port lets you groove as you book it from class to class.

    A Classic

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Simple design that works. It isn't as boxy/ugly looking as these pictures make it seem. Used this bag for 6 years (4 high school, 2 college). The water bottle side pocket ripped at the bottom, but it took about 8 months until it was bad enough that it was useless. I got a NorthFace backpack to replace it, but after using that bag for a year, I'm about to buy another JanSport for school/casual needs, and let my NorthFace be for outdoorsy/day hike needs. I've also walked in downpour rain with this bag, and everything inside stayed dry. I don't think its waterproof, but this bag never let me down. I like it way more than my more expensive/fancier NorthFace. JanSport doesn't necessarily carry the same amount of prestige a NorthFace or Patagonia bag has, but the JanSport is just simply a classic. You can't go wrong.

    Pockets on pockets

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I finally caved and got my first college backpack after 2 years of swinging it without one. I've got Anatomy this semester which means many a textbook and I desperately need all the help I can get in keeping organized. This pack is a gem! So many pockets and it feels really durable. The only complaint I have is that the straps are pretty rigid and I'm finding it difficult to wear comfortably. I'm hoping with more use they will loosen up.

    Planning to buy this backpack...

I am a grade 11 student and a female. It's my first time buying and owning a Jansport backpack and I am excited to get the Jansport Big Student Multi Tribal Stripe. I'd like to know how long it'll take to ship this backpack to Canada.

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought this backpack my sophomore year of high school and I am now a senior in college about to graduate in engineering. This thing has lasted me FOREVER. It is finally starting to wear out at the bottom as some small holes are showing but this is after I have literally stuffed this thing full on a regular basis with heavy books and my laptop. I also throw it on the ground without second thought and I have brought it with me on every trip I have ever gone on. This includes camping, international trips, any time I fly somewhere, just spending the night somewhere. Why do I bring it everywhere? It is big, it is well built, and you would NEVER think it is as old as it is. It looks less than 6 months old. I might buy another.

      Great backpack!

I LOVE THIS BACKPACK! I am a junior in high school and carry my backpack around school with me all day. I carry a lot of books around with me, and this is like the one back pack that half the students carry because it takes a lot for it to rip! It is very durable and the straps aren't too bad, either. I highly recommend this backpack to anyone!

        THE BEST BACKPACK!!!

This is the best backpack ever. It is what I have always used and will use. I love Jansport backpacks and hope to see more and more colorful patterns because they the patters are so unique! Very Good! :)

I have used for several years in a lot of travels, and it's a great item.
However, is not waterproof, all your things wil get wet, in the city.
How can i resolve that problem, with an easy to find sealer?
          Thanks

The shoulder straps on this back pack...

The shoulder straps on this back pack initially feel very stiff. Will they soften up with use?

The straps won't soften, but they will loosen up somewhat with use. Despite this, they'll still be relatively firm and stiff. This is a huge pack to be carrying, especially without any waist harness or chest strap. You may want to look into some other products, including a Camelbak pack. The Alpine Explorer pack is a fantastic place to start in this size range:http://www.backcountry.com/store/CAM0230/CamelBak-Alpine-Explorer-Hydration-Pack-3L.html
