Compact and dialed for the dirt, Ion's Villain 8L Backpack comes ready to ride with a 2-liter hydration reservoir, and 8-liters of internal space for packing up your multi-tool, spare tubes, CO2, and trail snacks. For comfort on the trail, the Villain is built with pre-shaped EVA shoulder straps that use open texture to let cool air in, while also cushioning the load. The back panel features pads on the outsides, with a channel in the middle that permits sweat to escape, and the removable, padded waist band helps stabilize the load. The pack is finished off with an elastic pull cord which offers a storage spot for an extra layer on inclement riding days.

ION Villain 8 lt
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- 8 liter
- Height:
- 6' 2"
- Weight:
- 195
I bought the ION Villain for traveling because it’s small and easily fits in my travel pack and suitcase. Over the last 8 months I’ve used the Villain on a dozen or so hikes ranging from 4 to 6 mile. The first problem I encountered was with the water bladder. The bladder emitted terrible plastic and chemical smells and tastes to the water making it undrinkable. I replaced the ION bladder with a platypus bladder with an added expense of $42. The second issue with the ION Villain is the relatively small zipper on the main compartment. You cannot have the zipper pulls gathered top and center without them opening on their own while hiking. The 3rd issue I experienced with the ION Villain is that two of the bungee cord loops have tore loose rendering the bungee system unusable. This product is a piece of junk and not worth purchasing at any price, sale or no sale. My 15 year old Camelback Mule cost far less and has had zero issues over years of use for Mtn biking, hiking, and skiing. My recommendation is to avoid purchasing this lightweight piece of guano!
