Lightweight, durable, affordable.
It should be no surprise that one of the leaders in mountain bike hub technology brought that tech over to cyclocross wheels the second disc brakes reached market saturation. The Industry Nine Ultralight CX Disc Wheelset is designed for cyclocrossers who ride their bikes everywhere, on all kinds of terrain, and don’t care for the risk (or expense) of carbon hoops.
The rims themselves are Industry Nine’s tried and trusted Ultralite mountain rim –complete with its 21mm internal width. This spreads tires a bit wider, and makes the most of a UCI-legal 33mm tire. Laced to these rims are Industry Nine’s Torch hubs, with one key difference. Since flat-ground coasting is more crucial to road and cyclocross racing than mountain biking, Industry Nine took out three of the standard six pawls to reduce drag.
The hubs and rims are connected via 24 of Sapim’s CX-Ray stainless steel spokes. Due to the low spoke count, the Ultralight CX Disc Wheelset carries a 190lb rider weight limit, and the rims perform best with a 28mm-or-wider tire.

- Q & A
Do it all wheels
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Exceptional build quality, weight as advertised, tubeless rims set up very easy (with tubeless and standard bead cx tires) and handle very low pressures well, accelerate quick, the freewheel will let them know your coasting. Beautiful hubs and easy to service the pawls.
Buy them, support USA companies products.
Do these I9's really weigh in as advertised?
Are these compatible with a 12mm thru-axle for the front wheel?
Will these hubs accept an XD driver?
I asked the same question directly to I9 and here's the reply...
"At this time, the XD drivers are for the mtn wheels only but we do have intentions on releasing one for the road disc hubs in the future..."
I'm looking to add these to my gravel bike, but want the capability to run 25 or 28mm tires on the road. Could I mount up some 28's on these? If so, what kind of pressure (tubed) could I run?
The Ultralight CX Wheelset it best suited to be mounted with a 28 mm or wider tire although you could probably get away with a 25 mm. Your tire pressure will depend on your tires but somewhere in the 60-80 PSI range if you are riding road and gravel/dirt.
Feel free to shoot me any more questions or if you would like help setting up an order to outfit your gravel bike:
Are the hubs convertible? I need a 15x100mm through axle for the front and a 10x135mm QR on the back.
Yes they make interchangeable end caps for their wheels. If you can email me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org and I can assist with an order and get pricing all set up for you. Looking forward to chatting soon!
