Icebreaker uses merino wool in its Men's Legacy Coat to regulate your body's temperature when you walk to work in winter. The naturally weather-resistant boiled wool is reinforced with a wind-resistant PU laminate for the ultimate combination of classy style and protection. The sophisticated design extends to the interior, with a stylish topographical map print on its lining. Weirdest fit ever

    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Medium

Bought this for my husband for Xmas. He's 5'11" and about 160 lb, so pretty average. I tried this jacket on before I gave it to him and I'm much smaller and my shoulders couldn't even bend! I still gave it to him thinking maybe somehow it would work for him, nope. Seemed like a nice jacket but I don't know who could possibly wear this. Maybe someone with zero muscle tone and incredibly narrow shoulders??

    Made in China!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I thought I was buying a premium, made in New Zealand merino jacket. I was surprised to find a 'Made in China' sticker inside the jacket. I still can't find anywhere on their website where they admit to this - lots of photos of rolling green NZ hills and wild forests though.

    Hey there Epicure,
Sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied with the jacket. We are a New Zealand company that was founded there and still sources our fiber from New Zealand. We proudly manufacture in different locations based on the expertise and technology available. Icebreaker prides itself on working with factories that practice only the most fair employee conditions, pay, and environments, and not all factories are the same. You're right - the sheep do get to roam on some pretty plush grasslands and mountain ranges, lucky they are! Please reach out if you have any more questions or feel free to check out our Ethics section on our site.

This is a really warm jacket and looks great. I have 6 other Icebreaker tops and jackets that I bought before the fit change and the medium size was always perfect for me. Either this particular item or the fit change has caused the sleeves to be a bit longer and the mid section to be a little baggier than what I'm used to but it still works.

    [Updated Model] Wind Resistant? No.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small

I love functional clothing. So when I was looking around for a classy coat that wouldn't make me look out of place at the office, I knew I wanted something that was also USEFUL against the weather. This Jacket fit the bill, on paper.

    -Looks fantastic.

-Merino wool makes me happy inside.

-Liner ISN'T merino wool, and thus goes on and off smoothly.

    -Nice cuffs

    -Nice pockets

-Overall quite warm.... if it isn't windy

-Description claims this jacket is highly wind-resistant. In reality, it blocks about as much wind as the seat of my pants after a hearty Mexican dinner.

-Fit is SNUG. I had to return XL for XXL, although I wear XL in virtually every other brand on the planet (6'1" 230 lbs).

    -Holy heck it's expensive.

-Terrible at resisting wind (did I mention this yet?)

So overall, it's a fantastic, classy-looking jacket that doesn't quite live up to its claims, but I kept it anyway for work because I keep getting complimented on looking sharp in it.

DISCLAIMER: This review is copy-pasted from my review for the 2012/2013 model (view it here: I was annoyed to see this new model did not show my review, because seriously, for the money they're asking and the wind-resistant claim they're highlighting, potential buyers need to know the truth: this thing is NOT wind-resistant. If I wasn't using it for professional attire, it would have been returned a long time ago. I have confirmed with [presumably] an Icebreaker rep that the only difference between the old and new models is sizing, and not materials or construction (see conversation on this page).

    Excellent Coat

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I am partial to black wool coats, and this coat is incredibly nice. The liner is flexible and soft, the pockets are perfectly sized, and the zipper seems durable and easy to use. I noticed that the sleeves are a little different from what I am used to. They run very slightly long and are cut at an angle near your wrist so that the coat protects the back of your hands. The liner around the wrist also clamps down a bit so that cold air stays out and warm air stays in. Over all I really like the jacket

    Love it.

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

I'm 6 3 at 190 pounds and wear 34 34 pants. I'm so glad I went with a XL. The sleeve length is perfect, Hangs about 3 inches below my belt. My advice is find a coat that you already have and compare the measurements online.

It has cinch tabs for the bottom, There is vertical zipper pocket inside the vertical zipper inside pocket pocket. I guess the inside inside pocket could hold keys or weed. The main inside pocket is perfect for my sunglasses. The polyester lining is silky smooth.

Ok, I do love this Jacket. Looks better than the online pictures. Let the compliments roll, already got a few today and suspect many more to come. IB quality is amazing, I have no doubts this jacket will do me for many years to come!

Is there actually any difference in...

Is there actually any difference in materials/construction between this Legacy Coat and the 2012 model?
