Over the decades I have bought 3 pairs of merino wool leggings. This is my second pair of Ice Breaker leggings. I wear them all winter long under my jeans. I sleep in them when camping in cold weather. They are that comfortable. 100% merino wool, no synthetics is my preference. The large is a trifle big and long but it's not a problem for me so I'm keeping them.

It hasn't been super cold in Utah yet this winter but the fall has had some brisk days. My first test run of the baselayers was under my down skirt on a brisk walk to the dog park. They were super cozy and moved well walking and running around with the pup. I typically wear a size 27/28 jean and the smalls fit perfectly snug.

Baselayers for Days!
These are a very warm, comfortable pair of baselayer tights! Definitely not a stand alone tight, but they work great for lounging or under ski pants and hiking pants! The fit is great and is super comfortable.

Great Baselayer

Really warm and stretchy so great under ski pants or other pants as an extra layer to keep you warm. Definitely would not say these are everyday leggings though, they get a little see-through on knees etc.

Great, ultralight baselayer

Super thin and comfy, crazy soft, warm enough for mild cold...the only thing I don't dig is the waist band...I'm thick in the middle and that stiff elastic waist sometimes ends up being uncomfortable on longer trips.

Too thin
These are too thin and see through. Compared to other IceBreaker products I was pretty disappointed with them. They also seem to run very large for a tight legging.

A bit thinner than expected
I bought these for my girlfriend who says: I needed a solid base layer and I love icebreaker products. These leggings were a bit lighter and thinner than I had anticipated, but they are still warm and a good light base layer.

Very warm and very comfortable. I docked a star because, as one reviewer noted, after you wear them for a day they do seem to stretch out a bit. That was a little bit of a bummer, since that meant having to pull them up higher so they don't sag. Maybe I should have gotten a size smaller than my usual size? You can see in the picture that they are saggy in below the knee and in the back. Fresh out of the wash these guys fit like a second skin. When it started to get too warm outside for a base layer I started wearing these around the house as PJ/lounge pants. Very comfy! So far they have also held up in the wash (make sure to dry them flat). I'm not sure how these would compare to SmartWool, but I was pretty happy with this purchase. Not sure if I'd pay $60 for them, though (I got them on sale for $30). They are a little transparent (at least the teal color) and are a little long in length (but I also have short legs).

A little confused

I ordered these as a base layer but didn't love the fit or density of the material. They were a bit transparent and seemed a little short in the legs for me.

Got these to wear as leggings with sweaters, etc., seeing as they are merino wool and thought they could double as a base layer under my hiking base layer leggings on the coldest days. Verdict... these are very soft, fit well and are comfortable. I wore them under my Mammut Denali pants on a hike this past weekend when it was 1 with the windchill (30-35mph winds) and it added that extra layer of warmth that I needed. These will work well under a dress as "tights" but not as "leggings" because they are somewhat sheer. I considered returning them as they weren't going to suit my original purpose but decided to keep them because they will work under long sweaters, dresses and a base layer on the coldest days.

Good everyday bottoms!
I was wondering what the difference was between these bottoms and the Icebreaker Oasis bottoms since they are both 200 g. These don't feel like standard Icebreaker clothes with that smooth merino wool feel Icebreaker stuff usually have, these are SOFTER! These were a little less expensive than the Oasis ones, so I went for these. Anyways, they feel great and fit under standard pants and ski pants. I was torn between size XS and S (5'1, 115 lbs, muscley quads usually makes me get size S), so I went with S and it fit well at first (not super tight, but more or less fitted), but after wearing them all day under some pants I realized they stretched out like crazy, saggy butt, saggy knees, etc. This bummed me out because I was hoping to wear these as tights under a skirt or dress. I even threw them into the dryer, which I never do with any of my merino wool clothes, and it didn't really shrink much to make a difference, still stretches out by the end of the day. Oh well, should have gone with the XS!

Great Merino Bottoms!
- Familiarity:

These baselayer bottoms are awesome, they're lightweight, super soft and comfortable! Don't let the word lightweight fool you, because the merino wool will definitely keep you cozy warm! I've used these mainly for Fall and early Winter hiking so far this year, and have been very impressed with how I can stay both cool and warm with these on, depending on the level of activity and the temperatures outside that I'm participating in. I don't think you can go wrong with the price point of these bottoms for the quality of baselayer you're getting. If you've never tried merino wool for your baselayering I highly recommend you give these a try! I am 5'4'' 125 lbs and the size Small is a perfect fit, not skin tight but no saggy bottom area which is a win in my book!
