    Lead the way to anywhere.

The real beauty of the Icebreaker Compass Men's Half-Zip Pullover Hoodie is that it can go just about anywhere and do just about anything, from backcountry skiing to climbing to running to hiking. The half-zip design, flatlock seams, and super-soft fabric make it comfortable against your skin or as a second layer, and the coazy hood, drop-tail hem, and thumbholes help prevent gaps that snow and wind can sneak into. There's a zippered sleeve pocket to hold small gear, and the merino wool fabric is naturally antimicrobial, so it can ward off stink even if you're wearing it for days on an extended backcountry adventure.

These Are a Staple Base Layer for Me

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Size Bought: Large

The Compass Hoody is a staple base layer for me when cycling in the winter. I own three of them even!!! (I also use them for day to day wear.) This is one of the biggest reasons why I love it—it's great as an active base layer for cycling, and it is stylish enough for casual every day where.

I use them from light 50ºF weather all the way down to 30ºF weather with a heavy jacket. It's a very flexible and stylish piece combined with the right weight insulated jacket. I love the thumb loops when putting on jackets on top.

The only draw back is I think they get a little more stinky in the armpits as they have less wool in them than say a 260 weight base layer. But, you could just rinse them out after one use then air dry then when they get really noticeable, then just throw them in the wash.

This is also a lighter base layer—say 200 or less. So, if it's super cold, grab a thicker jacket or use a thicker 260 weight base layer.

I have two larges and one medium. Both are just great for base layers, but the Larges are a little more roomy for causal wear. over a t-shirt.

    comfy and warm

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

It is a thin baselayer, I would compare it to my old bodyfit 160. It's perfect for a baselayer while skiing, not too warm but when layered on top of properly, keeps me perfectly warm on cold chairlift rides. It's also super comfortable, sometimes I'll wear it over a t shirt out on the town!

    Meh...

I probably wouldn't buy this again. It's not the thinnest base layer out there but it's pretty thin. It's also not the softest base layer out there. I got the "blue" but it's a pretty strange blue. My biggest complaint, and this applies to most shirts with an arm sleeve, is that you cannot open it with one hand. You have to contort one arm to hold the top while you unzip with the other. This happens because the material is so thin that the zipper won't pull down. It just isn't very warm or nice to touch or very good looking so only 3 stars. I will say that the fit is true and on the good side it is loose enough that you could fit a thinner base layer under it but then you would have to add a 3rd insulating layer on top.

My go-to layer for in-between seasons

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size

I like the fit and feel of this shirt. I fits me perfectly. I like how the hood zips up and covers the neck. It is not baggy but not too tight either. The weight of the material is perfect for active hikes on cool days.
