S35 29in Alloy Rim
Ibis started making wide mountain bike rims long before they became popular among riders. They understood that wider rims give better sidewall support to the tire, which allows you to get away with lower tire pressures for improved traction and control. Considering that Ibis is never one to rest on their laurels, they've recently set out to improve upon their tried and true rim design. The S35 29in Alloy Rim is the newest addition to their line of mountain bike rims, providing riders with durable aluminum construction and excellent tubeless performance at a price that won't leave a massive dent in your wallet. We wouldn't hesitate to charge through aggressive terrain or to race enduro on these rims, and the 35mm internal width is a perfect match for 2.3 - 2.8in tires.
When Ibis set out to improve upon their previous rims, one of the main goals was to make them even lighter and stronger, which was no easy task. To achieve this Ibis knew they had to reduce the height of their beadwalls in order to make them less likely to bend and break. Stan's NoTubes already uses this technology in their existing rims, so Ibis collaborated with Stan's to use their patented Bead Socket Technology (BST), which not only reduces the beadwall heights for improved vertical compliance and ride quality, but also makes it easier to mount tires and provides a more secure tubeless setup. Additionally, the S35 rims are drilled asymmetrically, which improves the bracing angle of the spokes and allows both sides of the wheel have nearly equal spoke tension, resulting in a stronger and more durable wheelset that can handle the abuses of aggressive riding in rocky terrain.
