Why We Like The Ripmo XX1 Eagle I9 Carbon Wheel Mountain Bike
With most of the enduro crop endlessly getting slacker, longer, and steeper it's nice to see the Ibis Ripmo XX1 Eagle I9 Carbon Wheel Mountain Bike break away from the mold. The Ripmo excels in tight and techy terrain all while being equipped with enough travel to handle its own when things get too rough and tumble. The bike is equipped with DW-link suspension, so going on long pedal days isn't something we shy away from like on most enduro bikes. Carbon hoops are spec'd on the Ripmo and allow for quick acceleration through harsh terrain. We're riding the Ripmo 7 days a week lately with its versatile ability to be good enough for the park, trailhead, and enduro racing.
Ibis nailed the geometry on the first Ripmo, so the V2 only sees minor tweaks to give the bike some extra stability when the trail points downhill. This comes in the form of a 1-degree slacker head tube angle, moving to 64.9-degrees compared to 65.9 on the original model. The reach is also increased by a few millimeters, rounding things off with a nice modern 475mm on a size large. These numbers let us open it up a bit more on high-speed descents, but maintain the same lively handling and precise cornering the Ripmo was famous for.
There's nothing left to be desired with the build supplied on the XX1 and carbon hoop spec'd Ibis Ripmo. SRAM's XX1 AXS group provides an immense amount of range for getting us up the mountain and down it faster than ever with minimal maintenance thanks to its wireless technology. Ibis carbon hoops come in a massive 35mm width to support the ultra-aggressive Maxxis Assegai rubber in a 2.5in width. The rear of the frame allows for up to a 2.6in tire to be mounted, allowing for more grip than what we possibly know what to do with. Ibis notably specs the bars in a 31.8mm clamp width, this allows for better flex and comfort from the carbon bar without sacrificing notable strength.
DW-link suspension has the Ibis Ripmo enjoying the best of pedaling capability as well as a deep bottomless feel. DW-link isolates the pedaling forces to get better suspension characteristics on the descents and a competent pedaler on the climbs. With the Ibis Ripmo, we don't shy away when our buddies want to go on all-day rides, or when they're looking to do park laps all weekend long. This build comes enduro-race ready and offers no excuses when it comes to getting down the mountain as quickly as we've ever gone. The Ibis Ripmo is built for the best of the weekends riding, and for slaying riding destinations all around the world regardless of the terrain.
