    Lightweight boost.

Ibis is known for producing fast-spinning, hard-hitting wheelsets that push the boundaries of what's possible on the trail, and the 27.5in Ibis 735 Carbon Boost Wheelset is no exception. Featuring an updated hybrid carbon layup that Ibis claims increases strength compared to its predecessors and an offset spoke hole placement, the 735 Carbon boasts even spoke tension and the durability to handle almost anything you throw it towards.

Boost axle spacing adds 10mm up front and 6mm out back, which improves the spokes' bracing angles for net gains in tracking consistency and power transfer. The 735 rim's generous width produces a similar stiffening effect, with additional benefits extending to the tires. The 29mm internal width lets the tire beads sit wide and keeps the side walls more vertically oriented, which increases air volume capacity and allows tire pressure to be reduced by a claimed four to six PSI, on average.

Lower pressure and fatter tires net greater traction and handling, as the tire is able to roll "through" obstacles rather than bouncing across them, maintaining more contact with the trail. Airborne tires can't grip to transfer power or hold lines in corners, so more trail contact means faster, more confident rides. Wider rims also translate to a wider tire footprint, further boosting traction and increasing stability.

The 735 Boost uses Industry Nine's highly acclaimed Torch hubs, which feature near-instantaneous 3-degree engagement for powering up and over trail obstacles with ease. Teflon shields and O-rings snap solidly onto the endcaps of the hubs, preventing trail grit from slowly compromising the wheel's smooth characteristics.

The 735 comes tubeless-ready, and is compatible with centerlock rotors. It’s available with a 15 x 110mm front and 12 x 148mm rear hub pairing, with your choice of an HG or XD driver. Choose the HG driver if you're riding a Shimano/SRAM 9/10-speed drivetrain or pick up the XD driver version if you're running the latest 11/12-speed drivetrain from SRAM.

These are only available with centerlock discs. Not a problem for me, but something to consider if you are moving a 6 bolt disc from another wheel. They came in slightly under the claimed weight, are nice and stiff, and the torch rear hub has the "angry bee" sound, but it's not at all intrusive, IMO. The 29mm inner width is perfect up to the 2.6" tires that are on the bike. They seat easily, tubeless, and the valves that come with them do have removable cores to make inflation and adding sealant a breeze.
