Summit 30L Backpack
Hyperlite Mountain Gear optimized the minimalist Summit 30L Backpack for passionate alpinists, backpackers, thru-hikers, and other goal-oriented adventurers. Take the 30-liter Summit Pack on your El Cap Nose-in-a-day ascent, the sub 24-hour Grand Teton summit attempt, or anytime you’re pushing the super ultralight fastpacking limits.
Combining the minimalist elements of Hyperlite's Metro pack with functional basic daisy chains, fully sealed seams, shock cord lacing, and compression straps, the Summit securely holds enough water, food, extra gear and clothing for your big day. And it’s streamlined so nothing gets in the way while you are en route. Bring it on your bigger adventures—it’s light and easy to stuff into a larger pack. Or just use this sweet rig for cycling, walking, or commuting to work. Great pack - Slightly Off Fit
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
This pack is really great as a daypack. It's surprisingly modular for a bag that is essentially just a roll top tube. You can really tailor the pack to any needs because of the daisy chains. I use this pack for ice climbing, hiking, ski mountaineering, and also a general purpose school backpack. I've always been able to fit everything I need for a day trip for any activity that I'm doing. Downsides: There is no way this is a 30L pack. Maybe if you don't close the top, but realistically after a few rolls you have the same amount of space as a 20L-25L pack. The strap attachment at the bottom leads to an awkward fit. The strap is attached directly at the bottom of the pack. As a result, the bottom of the pack is pulled up creating this awkward compressed zone that doesn't sit quite right. (Compare to a BD Speed 22 which slightly offsets the strap placement leading to better fit) Still haven't found a good way to attach a rope. I own the full Dyneema version and would have opted for this version instead after use because the water seeps through the full Dyneema version.

Easy to pack, love the open-hull style storage and the bungee cords on the outside to clip random climbing accessories.

Hyperlite for the win!
- Familiarity:

These packs are fantastic. My husband and I already use HMG windriders for backpacking and so we purchased two of these for summit attempts and for dayhikes. They are amazingly simple, comfortable and lightweight.

Best travel pack
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I added the back accessory pocket and this pack became the ultimate international travel bag (boarding bag size). Excellent build quality, excellent versatility (once the outer pocket is added).

Hyperlite Mountain Gear Summit Pack
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
When purchased my Summit Pack it was for day hiking in the Catskill Mtn"s NY. After seeing just how lite and durable this pack is it now is my go to for snowboarding, traveling (it's my carry on) and weekend over night hikes. On a extended hike I use it as my sleeping bag stuff sack. Then when I head off trial the Summit comes out as a pack. I continue to find new uses for this pack. It's rock solid and made in the US. Can't say enough good things about HMG and the Summit pack.

Best Pack for Alpine Ascents!
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
The Summit Pack has been a fantastic lightweight option for those tough summit pushes where you only need to carry the necessary gear to reach the top. With the 4 daisy chain attachments, I can customize the pack for my needs on each climb. The pack is so lightweight that I can fold it up and stuff it in my Porter Pack to get to base camp, then use the Summit Pack for all my alpine climbing adventures! With the 30L volume, lately I have actually been able to carry my full overnight setup just in the Summit Pack. With having one big open compartment, it makes it much easier to pack and organize gear, and it feels as though the pack is a lot bigger than 30L. Most other packs include every pocket in their total volume, which restricts how you pack your bag and gives a feel of less total space. Knowing my pack is weatherproof allows me to focus on the climb instead of having to worry about what the weather is doing to my gear.

I am 6’1” and weight 246, my typical pack is 21-23 inches long to fit comfortably. Does this pack adjust for that length?
