    Beautiful "Do it all ax"!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This Kisa is a sweet and beautiful ax. For sure, it will be the first ax that stays in the house, rather than outside the house when not in use. I was a bit concerned about the size given the fact that I'm used to slightly longer and heavier axes. I absolutely love the look and feel of this ax. It cuts as well as it looks. I easily bucked and 18" diameter oak tree that had fallen to free my chainsaw that was in a bind(pinched bar). The blade is sharp and holds up very well. I've also tested it splitting wood and as I expected, no issues there either. Having said that, I will say that if you're accustom to splitting wood by simply making a straight up and down swing, then it may not bold well for you for large diameter logs(18" and up). With it's narrow cutting profile, if you do apply enough force to penetrate deep, the odds are, your ax will simply be wedged in and you'll struggle to free. However, if you split as I was taught by my father as a teenager, then you'll split all size logs just fine with this ax. I use a technique whereby I flick my wrists inward or outward at the last moment to rotate thee ax head. What this does is effectively turn this ax head from simply being a wedge to a wedge and then a lever with the wood on the opposite side of the twist as the fulcrum. The momentum of the head is the driving force of the lever that will pry open the logs you want to split. Without this safe and efficient technique, you'll be spending all your time trying to pry this ax out of the wood as it will simply just embed itself into the wood. Refer to the video below if you're interested in learning how to split wood in this manner. Though it takes a bit of practice to master, once you learn it, you won't split any other way. One tool is all you need; no maul, no sledgehammer required. One tool does it all. This Kisa is the perfect ax for yard work or even camping outings. It fits neatly into my Gregory Stout 75 backpack, so if I ever decide there is a need for it, it will surely come along. This ax is a very efficient ax and will meet all your backyard needs and more. I absolutely love it. Thanks to Pat Guinn for matching the competitors price which was significantly lower. As always, Backcountry came through, so naturally, I got it from them!

    Chopping wood made easy!

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I purchased this as a gift for my boyfriend and he loves it! He was out splitting wood for a fire minutes after I gifted it to him. I was torn between purchasing this axe or the splitting axe from Hults Bruk, but this one gets the job done splitting, but also functions well for all sorts of wood-chopping. The craftsmanship of Hults Bruk's axes is amazing, each axe is unique and when ours isn't chopping wood, it's sitting on the fireplace mantel to be admired!
