Bought this axe for throwing

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Personally, I’m a Gransfors Bruk man. I throw their carpenter axe and wildlife hatchet competitively in the NATF. When a match results in a tie, it goes to big axe. Unfortunately, the Gransfors axe that is closest to the NATF requirement of 25” handle falls .25 lb shy of the minimum weight requirements. So I had to stray to Hults Bruk. Overall this is a great axe. Though, unlike Gransfors, they sandblast it to hide some of the blemishes and “imperfections” that give a hand forged axe it’s character this cheapens it for me a bit. It does however, throw like a dream. I choke up about an inch on the handle, and throw from about 20-25 feet back. It’s easy to sharpen and holds a pretty good edge. I thought the drawstring sheath would be obnoxious compared to the snap on Gransfors, but I kinda like it. The hickory grain in the handle is straight as an arrow. Overall, great axe for throwing, just wish they didn’t blast the head.
