Trail-crushing tank of a shoe
The ATR stack height is huge for a trail shoe. For it to work so well on technical trails is remarkable. I have only rolled my foot a couple of times on very technical trails here in AZ (and that was from my own lack of focus). The footbed is super cushioned, just rolls over icebergs and other detritus like the Hulk. Matter of fact, it's almost too nice of a ride - when I wear more "responsive" trail running shoes, they seem far too under-protected. The caveats I have about this shoe are the initial fit and weight. As an Altra fan, I was hesitant to buy this shoe. On first wear, it definitely felt too tight in the box. What I discovered was that the shoe needs breaking-in. It definitely widened out for me after about 20 miles of running. Alas, it's a pretty heavy shoe, almost a boot. It's a favorite shoe for thru-hikers for this reason. As an endurance trail runner, I don't mind the weight too much for my long-distance training runs. But for races, a lighter trail shoe is a better choice.

The most comfortable shoes out there!
I am on my feet all day for work. These bad boys keep my feet and joints happy! They may look a little dorky but if you can get over that, they are great! I can't wait for spring to give them a go on the trails.
