Give that tough old billy goat a run for its money.

If you had four legs and a solid set of hoofs, then you'd be able fly up steep and rocky mountains without breaking a sweat, but your physiology is a bit more bipedal, so you rely on HOKA ONE ONE's Speedgoat 2 Women's Trail Running Shoe, which is just about as efficient. With loads of cushioning, a ridiculously rugged Vibram sole, and a lightweight but supportive NoSew SpeedFrame design, the Speedgoat has been designed to handle rugged terrain and technical trails as well as any goat ever could. The injected EVA midsole puts 31mm of cushioning at the heel for supreme comfort on packed-out and rocky trails, while the trail-specific outsole flex grooves give the shoe a natural roll from heel strike to toe off. HOKA's Meta-Rocker geometry also helps you enjoy a smooth foot roll throughout your stride, which adds long-distance efficiency to the Speedgoat's already-awesome stability.

Still searching

I've put it through the wringer

I was really excited when I first bought these shoes: Attractive design, good true fit upon first trying them on, extremely grippy, etc but have decided these do not work for me I need more support for my supination. My gearhead Dustin is currently working with me to get me in something that better suits me. I am blown away by Backcountry's way of customer service. I feel that they genuinely care and really research what you are trying to find. Best online customer service I have ever experienced. Customer for life.

Perfect ultra race shoe

I've used it several times

My wife just made a classic error and used these for the Wasatch 100, but it was successful - she trains mostly in the Challenger ATR 4, and had confidence the Speedgoat would be a great option for the terrain. This may be her new go-to.

Fresh Shoes, Fresh Feet

I've put it through the wringer

The Speedgoat 2s from Hoka are a high performance trail runner with the perfect amount of cushion and a rocker profile that helps propel you with each step you take. They have a really springy feel to them, so each step makes your feet feel fresh and not near as tired as they normally would. This is my first pair of Hokas and admittedly the height took a little getting used to, but now I love them! They were designed for Karl Meltzer, the Appalachian Trail speed record holder, who ran virtually the whole trail. The design makes perfect sense, as the toe box is slightly wide, but is designed to hold your foot securely in place for steep inclines and declines. It also has a wide platform and EVA foam midsole for the perfect amount of cushion to fend off sharp rocks and roots on the trail. The Speedgoats aren't waterproof, but they excel in wet conditions due to the grippy Vibram Meagrip sole and big ventilation holes to drain water and also provide breathablility. I have worn them hiking and trail running and have been so impressed with their comfort, stability, and overall performance. I typically wear Altras because of their comfort, but I have really been drawn to these and want to wear them all the time! I highly recommend these and will be glad to answer any questions if you have any. 801-204-4562 or

Performance. Oh, and cushion.

I've used it several times

I am usually running Hokas for their cushion aspect, for obvious reasons. They really do make your joints sing! I am no spring chicken, so I definitely know what I am talking about. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that these are giving me some performance aspects that I did not expect. I feel a lot of spring action coming back at me, which I am pretty darn happy about. Must be the EVA foam. I am also finding it easy to work a mid-foot strike, which I prefer. I have been in zero drop shoes for a while and found mid-foot strike to be a little bit tricky in the past, with Hokas street shoes. But, I am having no issues with that in the Speedgoat, since it has a 4.5 millimeter drop. I'm so happy they offer this option! The lugs are great on the descent. I feel secure and do not think twice about my footing. I have run on any slippery surfaces yet, which I need to do and test. But, for the most part you want to avoid those anyway. Still, I will take them through some streams and see how they do. They have been great on loose dirt and gravel, so I am not too concerned. I am VERY happy about the color options this year. I know bright is their signature look, but I do think it scares people away that would otherwise, be hooked. So, I am happy that I can answer people’s questions about these shoes on the trail, and they will not run from the super bright colors. Hahah! Size is true. I am a size 9.0, almost always. These are just right. If you run really long-distances, where your feet swell and you are on the cusp of sizes, then size up half a size. Otherwise, go true. I've had Hokas in the past, and they are durable for miles and miles. So, gave these 5 stars, even though they are new to me.
