    Speedgoat 3 Running Shoe

When you want to escape to the trail and leave your daily stresses behind for a few hours, the HOKA ONE ONE Speedgoat 3 Running Shoe will be there with the support and performance you need to tackle your longest and toughest trail runs. Named after the original Speedgoat Karl Metzer, who knows a thing or two about going long, this shoe offers plush underfoot comfort and support for high-mileage days thanks to its oversized EVA midsole. You'll have lots of cushioning and a feel that isn't too bulky or clunky, ensuring maneuverability on tricky terrain. The Vibram Megagrip outsole features an aggressive lug pattern to help you claw into soft trails and keep your grip on roots and rocks, while the open engineered mesh upper provides maximum breathability on sweltering days.

New to the Speedgoat is a more supportive heel and upper to help you take on even longer runs. Reinforced overlays and a midfoot cage help keep your foot stable and supported, even when the trail gets rocky and overgrown. A wider platform also works towards a more stable base, and the MetaRocker design helps you transition easily from heel strike to toe-off, keeping you moving smoothly on tough terrain.

    Run on a cloud!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 9
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 145lbs

These shoes are outstanding and extremely comfortable. I've been getting into trail running over the past few years and the Speedgoat 3 has allowed me to increase mileage with little to no added pain on my knees.

    Really Impressed

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 9
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 160lbs

I hate running, but these shoes make it easier. They're ridiculously comfortable. I feel like an aged grandma, pampered to the max. True to size, Hoka comfort out of the box, and I had a hard time taking them off even when I wasn't panting, trying to finish a lap. They are still responsive even with all the cushioning too. I don't think I'd use them for anything aside from pavement. I used them as approach shoes as a pinch and they did just okay.

The Spicy Orange color is...not for everyone. I kept seeing the shoes out of the corner of my eye because they're so vibrant. Got a few comments from strangers and friends too. They're just jealous they can't rock the clown shoes.

    A Great Distance Shoe

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 135lbs

I am relatively new to running and thus don't have much experience with running shoes. When I tried these out a few weeks ago, it was my first experience with Hoka One Ones and only my third running shoe to wear since I started running. I didn't put them through the wringer by any means, but here are my initial impressions.

    1. These shoes were incredibly comfortable. Switching to these from the Salomon Sense Ride was like laying down on a real mattress after sleeping on a foam pad for a week. I noticed less soreness in my knees and feet and felt like I could run much, much farther with less fatigue.
    2. Despite the cushion, the SG3 is a responsive shoe. On flat trail or moderate inclines, I felt like I was getting back what I was putting in and then some. I still felt pretty nimble and had no trouble navigating obstacles.
    3. These shoes DO NOT shine on technical or steep terrain.
    4. The sizing is strange. I'm usually an 8.5 in casual shoes and the 8.5 in this shoe just felt a little too big. I sized down to an 8 which fit snug, but better, however after running a few dozen miles I wished I had stuck with the 8.5. I recently purchased the Clifton 5 for recovery and road runs and ended up having to size up to a 9 in that shoe.

I ultimately did not purchase these shoes, but I can see myself coming back to them this summer for distance runs but will likely look to a brand like Salomon, Sportiva, or Scarpa for a true mountain running shoe.

    Very Narrow

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Size Bought: 12
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 200lbs

Overall I think the shoe can be great however the toe box is narrow. I had to return due to its tightness . Wore one day and caused blister . If you have somewhat of a wide foot this is not the shoe for you .

Narrow fit, responsive for stack height

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 9
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 140lbs

I will update this review again, but so far, here are my findings:

    1. Stack height provides a lot of cushion, but does not feel "dead". For how much cusion they have, they are extremely responsive. Technical trails and anything resembling vertical rock is not easy because of this - I tried some 5th class scrambling in them and felt extremely uncomfortable.

    2. This much cushion can make it easy to propagate bad running form. I found that I was a little "sloppier" than when I run in Altras - with a little proprioception and general awareness this is not an issue.

    3. Fit is narrow in the toe-box, fit similar to Salomon, but maybe not as extreme.

    4. Very comfy over long distances - I see these finding a place in my training as a recovery and ultra-distance shoe.

If you loved the 2 youll love the 3

    • Height: 6'1"
    • Weight: 174lbs

Hoka really took the concept of its not broke dont fix it! There are really only two updates on this shoe, a better midfoot wrap and more reinforcement around the bottom part of the upper. The 3 also fits a bit longer than the 2. not a full half size but just a bit more wiggle room. I have to say that I have been really impressed with the Speedgoat 3 for its durability, after over 100 miles in just a few weeks I am not seeing any wear and tear that I saw on the 2 (like small tears in he fabric around the ankle and on the toe crease). The small increase in weight isnt really noticeable and these things really can go the distance. I think the SG 3 will be an improvement over the 2 as far as longevity goes, so if you loved the 2 the 3 wont disappoint you as there are no major overhauls or updates. The SG always impresses me on the downhills and is definitely made for technical trails where a little more cushion helps you keep floating along!
