My boyfriend says that these shoes are incredibly comfortable--his new go-to walking shoe. He immediately got two pairs after trying them out. They have a wonderful support system. They live up to the "walking on clouds" claim--and then some.

I went through several pairs of trail runners this year which came with a lot of suffering. The make/model I ran in for years was discontinued this year making me feel...lost...and in pain due to the absurdity of EU sizing. And then I discovered the Hoka Speedgoat. It runs a hair large which is actually perfect for me, since my size is more like 10.75! My only complaint is that they're a little stiff, but after about 20 miles this week, they're starting to feel better. Bothersome hip pain from this summer has started fading. They really chew through steep, loose terrain and help you fly up and down mountainsides. It's all pretty subjective, but if you've been abandoned by your favorite brands and don't which way to turn, try the Speedgoat. Chances are you'll like it.

Treat Yourself

As a Sierra member, I should have written many reviews by now, but this shoe is so good that I felt compelled to write my first one. I've ripped through about 5 pairs of trail runners this year in search of the goldilocks runner and was beggining to accept that with the pleasure of eating miles comes some pain. Runners knee, bloody heals and socks after a long run and time lost to recovery. I began weighing that euphoric feeling of hitting the trails vs the two days of icing etc until I rolled the dice with a pair of Hokas. The lofty sole and pitch of this shoe is a game changer. The shoe changes your strike and stride angle, leaving you floating on the trail. Running the North East, you get a lot of root, rock, scramble etc and these conquer all. Great grip, stability and light enough to devour 20+ miles a day and 1000s of feet of elevation. After 100 +miles in a month, I can't stop recommending them to anyone interested in a solid shoe. You will not be disappointed. In fact, you'll be rejuvenated and eager to hit the trails, minus the grind on the knees!

I have had issues in the past finding a pair of shoes that fit my strange hobbit-like feet. Wider toe boxes are preferred but Altra is just too sloppy for anything technical in my opinion. Topo Athletic seems to lose a lot of their pop rather quickly... in steps Hoka... I had the previous iteration of the SG shoes and had to go up a half size to get the necessary width. That left me with a little too much length but pefect width. They still served me for many miles of backpacking in the Ozarks. They dried quick and left my feet feeling pretty darn good after miles of backcountry travel. I read that they widened these up a bit in the toes for a more accommodating fit while I didn’t initially believe it, after one hike, they relaxed a bit and have been my favorite trail shoes to date! So far, I’ve put about 200 miles on mine and they have yet to show a flaw. They hold my foot securely in place and offer enough support for bigger mileage days. I stuck with my usual 10.5 and they fit perfectly. The Vibram MegaGrip is tough to beat and holds up to almost anything I’ve thrown at it! Well done Hoka! I ordered a pair of the Goretex ones for cold, winter use but haven’t tested them yet so we will see! But I’m not terribly worried.

This is a really great shoe for running on the trails. My favorite part of the shoe is definitely how soft the padding in the soles are. Having knee and ankle problems I have issues with most other trail shoes but these ones felt great on my feet. They're super light and really comfy. My only complaint is that the material in the toe can sometimes rub a little bit but that is likely just a fluke in the pair I had. They fit really great around my feet and didn't cut off circulation when I tightened them a lot. They breathe really well and didn't make my feet super sweaty. One thing I really like as well is I can walk around the city and they still feel really comfortable. I definitely recommend this to anyone who is going to trek the mountain or canyons. Especially if you have problems with knees or ankles.
