Big Fan

The Mach 4 has a lot going on for it. Reasonably light and just the right amount of responsiveness so you can run fast but enough cushion that you can run easy and long as well. I have used the Mach 4 for tempo runs, recovery runs, and some moderate paced runs with some high intensity sprints. This shoe really feels like it can do just about everything! Although I am a huge fan of the way the mach 4 runs and feels underfoot, I do think it has a few drawback that Hoka missed. The upper is not very breathable, i consistently notice that upper fabric soaking wet after run in the heat. My favorite Hoka road shoe upper is the Carbon X, I think the Mach could shave a touch of weight with a single layer mesh but that would also take away from the soft feel and comfort it offers, so that's not really my knock. The reason I dropped the review to four stars instead of five is durability. I currently have just over 100 miles on them and the outsole is nearly gone! A small patch of rubber on the heel and just under the forefoot would easily get this shoe to over 400 miles but I dont think they would make it past three hundred with the current sole. Overall an awesome shoe just could use some minor tweaks to make it the best around!
