You're ready for any challenge that you meet, whether it's on the road or trail. That's why you'll love the HOKA ONE ONE Challenger ATR 5 Running Shoe. Designed for runners who don't like to pigeonhole themselves to one discipline, this shoe has the traction to go off road and a smooth ride that you'll love when you're hammering out long miles on the pavement. The midsole provides the plush cushioning you'd expect from HOKA, and also ensures stabilizing performance and impact protection for uneven terrain. An Early Stage Meta-Rocker gives you a smooth transition from heel to toe, which will really propel you forward on the road. On the trail you've got 4mm lugs and a podular outsole design that keeps your footing secure and stable as you dart around roots and rocks, but doesn't feel clunky when you're running on smooth surfaces. You've got all that plus updated midfoot and heel support for a lockdown fit that can handle all the terrain that you can.

I have wide feet, but not wide enough to justify getting ?a wide fit? for a shoe. So I went up half a size from usual as these shows are generally fairly narrow. I weigh 210 pounds but am a fast runner. So needed something to give me cushion. Fit is perfect, took four runs to wear them in and get rid of any blister/rubbing kind of stuff. They are light, fast, grippy, great on gravel and rock and road, which is pretty much well all we run in southern California.

Pretty frustrated with these shoes, I purchased these back in April and the mesh on both shoes (same area inside) has torn and created a hole. 4 months in and that seems to be really the only wear, tread is still great. I thought they had more life in them, but it's only getting worse..

Fantastic Trail Runners

I used to be a hard core Salomon XA Pro 3D ever since they came out, and replaced them over the years as they wore out with the different variants of the shoe. They are a great runner for the minimalist & stiff feel and protected you well on the trail. Now after 2 knee surgeries, the game has changed. Prior to that time, I tried a pair of Hoka's and found them to be too soft, but that was also early in their time on the market. They have since matured nicely. I have since discovered the Challenger series, and the ATR 5 revision, they got smack on. I wear them hiking and to the gym, and just an overall all around great shoe. They have also become my go-to travel shoe. I recently had to rush through Heathrow Airport to go two terminals away for a layover where I had only 55 minutes. Everyone is of course a little different, so it's worth your time to try a bunch of others. I had tried their top rated Bondi which was too soft for me, and the Speedgoat 4 which is highly rated, but too snug in the toebox for me.
