    When you're in the Rockies.

Apart from being high and rocky, the Rocky Mountains are known for being bitterly cold, so suit up with the Hestra Women's Heli Mittens when you venture out to ski some cold Rocky Mountain powder. Built with soft leather and a waterproof, breathable membrane, these mittens will keep your hands dry and remain intact after a long season of skiing. For warmth, Hestra insulated these gloves with a fleece liner that can be removed and dried out after a snowy day, and it added Fiberfill insulation for reliable warmth and comfort in seriously cold conditions. Hestra gave the Helis a slimmer profile for a more women-specific fit, and a hook-and-loop wrist strap ensures a snug and secure fit.

    • Women-specific mittens ideal for midwinter powder days
    • Hestra Triton polyester exterior with durable Army Goat leather palm
    • Waterproof and breathable Trion insert
    • Fiberfill synthetic insulation retains warmth when wet
    • Removable fleece liner for additional warmth

What do you think about this product?

    Have questions about this product?

    Loooved these!

I have very poor circulation in my fingers and toes and have a very tough time keeping warm usually when in the snow, but despite this pre-existing condition I wasn't cold at all with these mittens! I would recommend these to anyone!

      Didn’t get to use

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I measured per the instructions and the mittens were too small. I returned them and haven’t replaced them yet so no real review but I would size up.

      Warm and stylish

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These were a gift for my wife... she struggles with cold hands while skiing. These have kept her hands warm and she loves the vibrant red color.

      Awesome gloves!!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Love these gloves! The only thing they don't have straight from the factory is a good weather proofing/conditioning on the leather. I used a pitch type paste to rub into the leather parts to make them a little more weatherproof and help the leather. They are super comfortable and easy on/off which is really nice for those quick bits you need nimble fingers for. Would definitely recommend.

      Perfect Gift!

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought these for my girlfriend and she absolutely loves them. She always struggles with cold hands, and these did the truck. They keep her hands warm and dry and they look awesome!

      Good Mitten

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I originally got a pair of hestra gloves for my wife and on real cold days they were a little cold. So i got her these mittens instead. She has really enjoyed them and they have been much warmer than the original gloves i got her.

      Not warm

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I purchased these gloves while working at ski resort in Colorado. I would not recommend these for winter skiing.
Additionally you’ll want to size down. I measured twice and ordered once and still too big. There is no Primaloft insulation in these and if you don’t treat the leather as instructed they won’t last. I wore liners with them all winter and gloves are totally worn out after one season. I believe the company makes a more expensive glove with more insulation and Gorefex etc. But seriously who is going to spend $160 on mittens?
      Bottom line, shop around.

      I

      Best Mitten!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Who doesn't like an awesome mitten, this is warm! One of the best features is the lanyard that attaches around your wrist! Very warm and if you want a glove to last you a couple years! Look no further! Just make sure you treat the leather, Hestra also provides you with instructions and some leather wax treatment to use so you can keep this waterproof for many years to come. Very warm and true to size!

      Comfortable and Warm

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I saw these mittens awhile back and loved how soft they felt both on the inside and out. When it was time to replace my old mittens I decided to get these! I am so glad I did. I have worn them 5 times already to go outside in the cold and snow with my two kids. Temperatures ranged from 20 degrees to a nice and warm 32 degrees in the sun and my hands stayed both dry and warm.

The leash one of my favorite parts of this mitten. My previous mittens the way it was set up, the leash was still hanging out partly and could easily get caught (which it did on a ski lift and ripped off). These are great due to the comfortable eslatic band that slips over the wrist and tucks nicely in the mitten; no loose ends!

Another great piece to this mitten is the velcro wrap around the wrist. This is great for keeping excess snow out of your mitten. The velcro allows for easy loosening and tightening.

I will have to say though if I stood still for long periods of time with no acitvity, my hands did start to feel a chill. By long period of time I mean roughly an hour or so. As long as I was moving and playing with my kids they remained toasty warm. These are great for the regular skier, winter hiker, or overall play outside in the snow person!

I would recommend these mittens for sure!

      Can't beat Hestra

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

These Hestra gloves feel amazing! The inside is very soft and not bulky. There is room for hard warmers too! It's too early in the season to test them:-)

      Favorite Mittens

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have tried mittens from Black Diamond, OR, Dakine, Arc'teryx, you name it. These are the warmest yet for my poor circulation hands! Staying dry on the wet days and pairs well with some hand warmers. The wrist cuff is also a must for on the chairlift! When it comes time for new gloves I will grab myself another pair of these.

      For the Wife!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

She has very cold hands and always struggles to keep them warm on cold days. I finally convinced her to go with a mitt even though she really didn't ever want to. These have been great so far. Very high quality mitt like all of hestra's stuff. We haven't used them on a super frigid day but so far they have been great and even breathe well on the warmer days. No complaints yet!

      Wonderful warm mittens!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I purchased these mittens for cross country skiing in northern Minnesota. Every year I am miserable because my hands/fingers are so cold. This year my hands stayed nice and warm! I am so happy that I decided to purchase these mittens. I will never buy any other brand again!

      Wonderful warm mittens!

I see you are out of size 9. If I just got the men's Heli mitt in size 9 would that be the same, or would it be too wide for my long-fingered feminine hand?

Will backcountry be getting the black and white size 9 back in stock?

      Unanswered Question

I just purchased a size 8, after measuring. However, my fingers touch the top edge of the mitten, and the stitching at the wrist feels high, right at the heel of my hand (and not my wrist). In other words, wondering if these are just a bit small.

Someone mentioned these stretching out with wear. Is that the case?

What size mitt do I order if my length is 6 inches and circumference is 7 inches?

      Unanswered Question

I bought these a couple years ago, but my hands froze in them. I am not sure whether it is because they don't do well in wet spring skiing or if they just lose their waterproof capabilities after a few years. I live in Oregon and Mt Hood can be wet. I was disappointed just because I felt they should be warmer and more waterproof. Anyone else have that same problem?

      Hi!

I am excited to purchase these mittens (my husband has a pair of Hestra gloves that are about 10 years old, and he still wears them to go skiing all the time), but I can't decide what size I need. I printed out the chart and my longest finger is SLIGHTLY above the 7 line, while the rest of my fingers are comfortably below the 7 line. Should I go up to an 8? I generally wear a small in women's gloves, if that helps at all. Thank you!

I usually wear a women's small glove and I got the 7! They are perfect. And they will stretch out a little bit as you break them in, so I would go with the smaller size! If you plan on wearing an additional liner underneath, you could size up to the 8... If not I would go with the 7!

Let me know if you have any more questions!

      Here's a link to Hestra's care guide:

Since these do have a leather palm, I would focus on #5 which says, "We do not recommend washing leather gloves frequently. If you do wash them, put on the gloves and wash with soap and lukewarm water. Squeeze out the water gently without twisting. Models without several layers or leather can be machine-washed at 40°C or less."

So, I wear wrist guards for boarding. Without them I would probably order a small/ medium. Does anyone recommend that I size up to a large? I don't want to look like I have lobster claws.... Thanks!

      Whitney,

What type of wrist guards are you using / what size? If we can see what wrist guard your using and the profile / size of the product that'd help in our recommendations.

Also, just as an FYI, take a peak at the sizing chart as Hestra gloves do not go by Small, Mediums or Larges. They have a numbered sizing system which is far better.

I wear size small Dakine mitts. What is Hestra's equivalent size?

      Hey Ann,

Thanks for reaching out to us!

Hestra's sizing is going to be a little different from Dakine's, so it would be best to simply re-measure your hand to fit it to Hestra's sizing.

Thankfully, Hestra makes this nice and simple by including a printable guide in the size chart.

Just click on the link that says "Size?" and it will open up the size chart for you.

Does anyone know whether these mitts are waterproof or not? I'm from WA and ski all over the PacNW n I definitely need some waterproofing...

      Hi kpencil,

The Women's Heli mitt's shell is made of windproof, waterproof and breathable HESTRA Triton/Polyamide.

If you're partial to Gore-Tex, I'd recommend checking out the Hestra XCR Mitt - it is very similar to the Heli Mitt in terms of fit and warmth; the main difference is the XCR has a Gore-Tex insert combined with the HESTRA Triton shell fabric. This waterproofing combination might give the XCR an edge over the Heli Mitt on the wettest days; however, for the majority of days on the hill, either of these mitts will be excellent.

I'm considering these mitts but I'm...

I'm considering these mitts but I'm hesitating between the men's and the women's version (color not being an issue); got a couple of questions:

      - is the tether system (wrist strap) that's shown in the pics of the men's mitts also present on the women's version?
      - fit wise, what's the difference between the two? (Has anyone ever tried on both versions in the same size?
      - size wise, how baggy do they run? I'm between sizes, should I up- or downsize?
      Thanks!
      - what's the

The women's is slimmer and seems to therefore fit me better. However, I ended up getting the men's XCR mitt because it doesn't come in women's-specific. If you do get the women's, try them on before ordering, if possible, because even though they're supposed to be just lower-volume, I found the women's mitt to be shorter in the finger length, too.
