Love this glove, with a couple caveats

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I've been using these gloves for about a month of skiing and I'm so glad I bought them. The "lobster" design is perfect - you get the warmth of a mitten with the tactility of a ski glove. I've warn them in 10 degree temperatures without any problem, although a hand warmer is useful when the mercury goes down below zero.

I'm taking off a star because of a number of annoying details, namely:

    1. The leather material comes with a booklet worth of care instructions, including a sample of Hestra branded lubricant that you're supposed to apply to the glove on a regular basis. Of course they recommend their in-house brand, which on their website costs ten bucks for a tiny can. I noticed the main ingredient is petroleum jelly so that's what I'm using. But I'd prefer if the glove weren't so high-maintenance to begin with! That's the downside of leather vs. synthetic materials.

    2. Instead of a built-in clip to keep the gloves together, the glove comes with a carabiner., which is too big and bullky to leave on a glove while skiing. So you have another dinky little accessory taking up pocket space everywhere you ski.

    3. After less than a month of use the little plastic piece covering the cuff band broke off. I've contacted Hestra customer svc. and will update this review to see how they respond.

    Pretty much cover all conditions

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 9

Have taken these down to -15 with wind chill on a resort day, and it was starting to get cold but I've never had a glove perform better than these. Dexterity is great, I put them on before transitioning and have no problem with boot buckles, skins, pack straps etc. Awesome glove, no complaints, seem pretty durable so far.

Hestra Czone Mountain 3 finger glove

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 9

I gave these gloves as a gift. The recipient informed me that he very much enjoyed the high quality of the gloves and especially how the index finger can move independently making strapping into your bindings a breeze!

    Don't fear the lobster

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

These gloves are great. The trigger finger free comes in handy and you don't really notice your other three fingers are together. Each finger is separated by an internal glove so the fingers keep warm and toasty. Trigger can get a little cold, but that just my circulation. Gloves are great, durable, warmer, and very functional.

    Love the Lobster Glove

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

A friend recently purchased these for a climbing trip. Here's what he has to say:

"These sharp looking gloves help keep fingers warm with the lobster layout. The material is very comfortable and high quality. The idiot straps are convenient and a lifesaver."

Warm, True to Size, & Great in the Snow

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

These gloves are warm. They are true to size. They also have long wrist sections which make them great for in the snow.

    Good so far

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

Haven't used it much, just once up at Crater Lake. I get cold hands really easily. These are probably overkill for temperatures in the 20s, but as I said, my hands get really cold, and not once did I get the slightest hint of cold. They also have an elastic band which I really like, helps to keep the glove on if you have to take it off for a minute in the wind. Wish I could write more, but limited experience. It seems high quality. I'll update in the future, unless it is discontinued or brought back as a newer model.

Update, about a year later: These things are super warm! Dexterity for anything but the most simple of movement is lacking, although that should be expected with a glove such as this, and therefore should not be reflected in the rating. I do photography in the backcountry, including in winter, when I take these gloves to warm my hands up after the cold wind seems to freeze them. Within minutes my hands are warm again. I will say that I have not been in subzero (I'm not counting windchill) temperatures. However, again, I do photography, which can involve a lot of standing around and not moving, while also requiring only liner gloves for dexterity to operate the camera.

    What Polar Vortex?

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Back to Lobsters after a 30 year absence. I finally got tired at double nickel's of the old cold finger syndrome. Fear not, for in the grip of one of the most awesome Midwest winters in years my Hestra Czones are getting the job done thanks to the good folks at Backcountry.

Like the description says, skiing, shoveling and, well not boarding in my case, but I'm feeling toasty down to -5 and digging (literally) my winter activities.

    Not that warm

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small

I had this glove for about a year now, and I have worn it on extremely cold days (10 degrees and below) several times. It is not that warm. I have even tried the glove with liners and it still leaves me disappointed. I bought this glove because of the lobster grip and for the cold. I would not recommend the glove for extreme cold. If you are skiing 20 degree weather and above, it is a great glove. Hestra cheapened the insulation and wind protection.

    The Usual Hestra Excellence

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've been skiing in the Hestra Heli Glove for a few seasons now, and decided to upgrade to this model for added warmth--and to more comfortably survive the current cold snap that is gracing the Wasatch. After a few close calls with frostbite in the past two weeks, I ordered the 3-Finger Glove in the hopes that it would maintain the dexterity that I know and love in Hestra products and would serve as a more utilitarian version of a mitten. Mission accomplished! I skied Alta in the glove today with subzero temperatures and a -15 degree wind chill, and was 100% satisfied with the added warmth provided by the burly structure and the 3-finger design. The goat leather on the palm and fingers is durable as ever, and provided plenty of grip and dexterity. I look forward to putting these gloves through the wringer this winter!

Are the fingers separated inside by a liner like material or is it one big open cavity so your fingers can pow wow together?

Does this glove have a band to wrap around your wrists for when you take off your gloves so that they don't fall on the ground?

All of the Hestra Gloves come with those straps. I personally love them, never even thought of them until I bought a pair of Hestra's. I wish they just sold the wrist straps, they make the best ones out there. They are elastic so they dont cut off circulation or anything like that.
