Helly Hansen Elevation Infinity Shell Jacket - Men's

Elevation Infinity Shell Jacket

In an effort to keep our powder deep, Helly Hansen designed the Elevation Infinity Shell’s waterproof, breathable protection without the use of harmful chemicals in the membrane or the face fabric. Like most high-end waterproof membranes, the all new Lifa Infinity Pro delivers reliable waterproof, breathable protection that ensures you’ll be dry when you’re scoring soft stashes of snow off of skin tracks and chairlifts. Also, Helly Hansen utilizes Lifa technology to weave a burly face fabric that is naturally hydrophobic, with all of the properties of an everlasting DWR, but without a chemical coating, and will never need to be re-treated although it'll need a wash every now and then like any other hardshell. A 3-layer construction keeps the shell thin, light, and packable for backcountry touring. The Elevation Infinity Shell comes fully-featured with ventilation zippers, a snap-back powder skirt, and even a phone pocket with space tech AeroGel to keep our phone battery charged for full days on the mountain.

Apart from Helly Hansen's own stores, the Elevation Infinity Shell is sold exclusively here at Backcountry.com.

Great Jacket, Arrived Used

The jacket fits well even with layers. I've worn the Rab Microlight hoodie under it a few times and I've used the Patagonia Retro X fleece other times with room to spare. The sleeves are curved, cuffs are nice, and the shoulders have room to lift/twist etc. I think the pockets work well. The chest pockets are deep and held up in a rain storm. Very easy to jump and twist/turn in it, which I was worried about because of the length but it does well to accommodate my legs. I usually wear a large (even though it'll be too long) because my chest is a littler more stout than a medium - in this case, it still is just a touch tight, but the articulation really helps me move around without noticing it. It's only when I really try to hug myself that I feel the chest and pit area tighten up. With the pits open, it's perfect for me. Love the hood and high collar. The high collar was the main reason I bought this. It feels and works perfectly! If I had to be picky I would ask for a removable powder skit (this is personal since I wear a high bib), but understand why they didn't make it removable. The only thing that keeps me back is the condition my particular jacket came to me. It smelled like onions (especially right in the face part) which was incredibly disappointing. It's like someone had it near their kitchen when they cooked and the face fleece part absorbed it. Or, and I don't want to think about this for covid and sanitary reasons, someone else wore it after eating and then returned it to backcountry. It took a couple of washes to get rid of the smell. There was also a bit of residue on the fleece part inside of collar/face area. Someone definitely wore it just after eating or at least tried it on while munching on something. Then when I went to try on the removable face mask (material feels really smooth and soft) I noticed the smell again. It's not shown in the pictures but there's a triangle shaped piece of material that buttons to itself on the back (inside) of the hood. If you look at the pictures it on the site, it shows a rectangle piece of material that it loops around. It's nice and I usually just leave it back there without noticing unless I want a little extra warmth. Anyway, it also smelled like food. I found a candy wrapper on the inside mesh glove pocket. The other part that was disappointing was the missing zipper pulls. One chest pocket has it and the other doesn't. Then one pit zip has a pull and the other doesn't. Maybe it'a s a manufacturer thing, but I find it hard to believe, or come up with any reason why HH would purposefully send out a jacket with one zip pull on one side but not the other. Super annoying when I got to unzip and have to take my mittens off. Then I need to remember which side has which so I can take that glove off. Not the end of the world, just annoying especially when remembering how much I paid for this. And the final thing was the marks on the butt, sides, cuffs and sleeves. It had mud and debris on it, very slightly, like someone tried to wipe it off. I get it's a strange time and we're all understaffed and it's the holidays so I didn't make a huge deal, but I feel like a sucker for paying this much and getting a "test" or used product. Most of it I got over, just the zipper pulls is annoying. Great jacket, wish it was new.

Somebody ought to get you a new coat fir being so gracious.

Hi Mike, I apologize about the condition of the jacket you received, that certainly is not our standard level of quality and service. Per the emails we have exchanged, a fresh jacket is on its way to you and will be in your hands shortly!

I just found out about these jackets today will def be picking one up. Lol but dude your review had me spitting milk out of my nose. Smelled like onions and had candy wrappers in the pocket lol.

Great jacket - collar is awkwardly high

I really, really wanted to love this jacket - loved the color, the fit, the fabric, etc. I have owned other HH jackets and have loved them. But there were a couple things that disappointed me. One was the collar - as you can see in the pictures it comes up very high on your face when fully zipped up - which might be great when your snorkeling in 3 feet of powder - but not everyday is going to bring such luck. For warmer days and not-so-deep snow...the collar is just awkward. If you zip it up all the way you have to fold it over so it doesn't come up to your eyeballs. When fully zipped with the hood over helmet, it's difficult to turn your head even the slightest bit. And, if you leave it unzipped it fans out like a suit from the 70's. It's just an unusual design and (I think) unnecessarily high on the face when fully zipped. Also - the powder skirt is sewn in and cannot be removed...very minor detail but somedays it's just not necessary. Finally - the side pockets are not functional for basic use such as warming your hands or accessing basic essentials. They're HUGE which is great for dumping gear in such as skins or goggles or some liquid refreshment, etc. But I'd rather have a couple standard pockets exterior and the gear pockets on the inside. Like I said - I wanted to love this jacket, but for the price it didn't suit my needs...I ended up returning it. I would recommend trying it on before you commit to the $750 price to see if the collar and other design aspects suit your needs. Hopefully in future versions of this jacket they'll address some of these issues - then I will absolutely love this jacket!

I was fortunate to put over 60 days of hard use of the iconic Elevation Infinity Shell last ski season. I'm beyond impressed. I've had earlier generations , but this is a complete overhaul in fit, pocket configuration and most noticeable the material construction. I live in the Pacific Northwest where we get a ton of precip and our conditions can be anywhere from torrential rain at the parking lot to nuking horizontal storms up high which is the ultimate testing grounds for the function and reliability of outerwear. The former iteration was an absolute overbuilt tank which could probably stop a bullet, but with the new Lifa Infinity Pro fabric it's literally half the weight and even more bomb proof then before. The breathability is outstanding right up to the point that it needs to be washed. I've washed it half a dozen times and what's also so cool is I haven't had to re-treat it with a DWR hence reducing my chemical impact with aftermarket care. Thank you HH for setting the bar for responsible manufacturing and making an outstanding product that kept me warm and dry all winter!
