Kore 1 Ski Boot

You might mistake the Head Kore 1 Ski Boot for an aggressive freeride boot built for resort only, but it's actually designed for the backcountry—which makes it all the better. Its 130 flex might be the stiffest selection out there, but its walk mode allows a 45° range of motion so you can tour the backcountry with ease. The walk mode's ratchet is so secure that a resort rider wouldn't know the difference between a resort-specific boot and this boot.

Not only is this boot seriously stiff for downhill riding and easily convenient for touring the backcountry, the Kore 1 is also surprisingly comfortable for all-day backcountry touring. Unlike most boots, the Kore 1 comes in variable lasts that change depending on the size of the boot. The larger boots have wider lasts, and the smaller ones have slimmer lasts, which makes sense when you think about it. Not only are the sizes appropriate, but the liner is thermo-moldable to customize your foot's shape so you can ride all day long with a smile on your face.

This review is for the 2020 model. As I make my tradition to full back country skiing, I bought these to use with a shift binding on a 181 Icelandic 105 Nomad Lite Ski. I consider myself an expert skier in the northeast, one who lives on ice and northern VT powder days....yearly trips cat skiing in Montana. These boots have 100+ days and 20+ tours on them. Enough bout me let talk about the boots: light, stiff and drive the edges of my wide skis into ice with ease. Uphill they do well for a do-it-all boot, enough articulation to have great accents. Did I mention they are light? Very noticeable. All of this is great with one exception, they leak at the buckles. No matter the conditions, my feet eventually get wet. As you can see from the picture when the liners are removed there are ice crystals on the boots, and moisture through the liner. When touring wet feet are not ideal. Currently I have duct tape over the lower overlap to try and help until I can find other boots.
