    Ultralight weight, ultrapackable warmth.

Pack the Haglöfs Men's Essens III Down Jacket inside your skiing or climbing pack for an extra layer of warmth. Its 800-fill down insulation provides a surprising amount of heat for how little the jacket weighs, and it makes the jacket compressible enough to fit inside its own pocket. Haglöfs treated the down with DWR to retain its lofty warmth in moisture. Windproof, downproof Pertex Quantum wraps around the Essens' innovative insulation, and Polartec Power Stretch fleece shoulder inserts make sure you can climb, ski, and belay with full mobility. Elastic bindings secure the cuffs and hem, and there are chest and handwarmer pockets for convenience.

    Perfect and handsome

So, the coat in my photo is their slightly lighter-weight version. But , I've loved it so much, that I want to review it somewhere, and show my support of the brand.

I've had this for my son for 2 years, and it's been nothing short of perfection,. It's quite warm, so the Essens III will be even warmer, while still being lightweight and packable. It's also held up to a lot of mistreatment, without issue. So, it's definitely a well made. There is little if any down leakage and it looks better in person than in photos. The construction fabric quality is ideal and it shows.

The DWR works like it should. It will keep dry for about 20 minutes of constant moisture. After that, you should be putting a shell on anyway.

Sizing is true. The arms a slightly longer than US brands. So, that will be great for the taller folks, without being excessively long.

I got this coat Friday and luckily we got a nice dump of the white stuff Friday night. I wore the coat sledding with the kids the next day. I was warm and dy even after taking many snowball hits. I tried out 5 other jackets (thanks BC for letting me try and return many jackets) This jacket is light, warm, comfy and the wife said it looked the best as well! It will be a gret mid-layer for the mountain. It feels like wearing nothing and fits under my shell perfectly.

    Amazing light weight Jacket

    I absolutely love this jacket!

The warmth to weight ration on this jacket is pretty amazing. I live in Alaska so have definitely put some time in this jacket. Normally anything this light is typically prone have cold spots. But I've yet to have issues with that so far.

The quality is really nice and feels like it will last for quite some time.

The fit for me is perfect but might be a bit slim for some so sizing up might be a good idea.

Id recommend this jacket for anyone looking for a high quality light weight down jacket from hiking to just an around town jacket this one wont do you wrong.

I was able to test this while backpacking in fairly cold and dry climates for one week with temperatures ranging from 17-50 deg F. I used it mostly at the start of a hike in the early hours of the morning or late at night in the backcountry and would often remove it after warming up. I definitely pushed the limits on this jacket sitting for a few hours at 17 degrees at night and you definitely will need multiple layers to stay warm. For reference I had a base layer, t-shirt, flannel, and down vest underneath this down jacket jacket at 17 degrees and I was still a chilly. If you are going to simply wear this jacket over a shirt, I wouldn't recommend going out in anything less than 40 deg F. That said, it is very light and keeps you fairly warm for how little material is "felt" when wearing it.

I am 5'6 145 lbs with a waist size of 30 and while a medium sized jacket ran a bit long on me for the arms and waist--I did not mind it too much because having a slightly longer jacket in very cold climates felt nice and comfortable even while hiking through tough and rocky terrain.  As far as the fit for the chest and waist I felt that it stayed true to the indicated size chart provided by Haglofs. One of my favorite features of this jacket is how compact it can be. The jacket has a nice feature of packing into it's pocket but there were times where I did not have time to do this and I was easily able to pack it into a duffle or backpack as if I was packing a sleeping bag.

I'm a big fan of down jackets so I have been through a lot of different kinds. I will say that this is one of the higher quality down jackets I have worn. The stitching and material is durable and I felt confident whenever it came into contact with hard sand or rock. The reflective material also makes it really stylish and fashionable if you just want to wear it out in the town at night.

Not a lot of down jackets tend to have the chest pocket--this is one of my favorite features of this jacket since I would often put my phone or GoPro here to make it easily accessible especially if you are on the back of a motorcycle or laying in an awkward position.

The Haglofs down jacket is an excellent one.  For how little it weighs, it provides an incredible amount of comfort and packs a lot of punch for it's warming capabilities.  That said, it does have it's limits. For extreme cold temperatures you probably either want to layer up with this jacket or purchase something with a lower temperature threshold. This jacket would be ideal for moderate-level spring/fall camping and hiking or casual wear in a cold city. If you do plan on going in colder temperatures and want this jacket, I highly recommend getting the hood option!

    Lightweight + Warm = Awesome!

This truly is a great jacket for all occasions and any season. its super light weight but packs a huge punch when stepping out into the cold. It will keep you cozy on the coldest of days and also packs into its own pocket for an even cozier pillow in warmer conditions. I love that the pockets zip up and virtually disappear! The stitching is so well done. The clean look/style gives you the ability to not only wear it on your next adventure but out to dinner with the family.

The sleeves are a bit on the longer side for me but the elastic cuff at the wrist makes it impossible for any fabric to hang low or fall over your hand. I am 6ft 1in, 200 LBS and fit in the XL with little room around my torso. I wouldn't go down to a large as it would be too tight.
