Highly compressible warmth whenever you need it.
Whip the Haglöfs Men's Essens III Hooded Down Jacket out of your pack when climbs get cold and ski tours get frigid. Its 800-fill down insulation provides a surprising amount of heat for how little the jacket weighs, and it makes the jacket compressible enough to fit inside its own pocket. Haglöfs treated the down with DWR to retain its lofty warmth in moisture. Windproof, downproof, and highly water-resistant Pertex Quantum wraps around the Essens' innovative insulation, and Polartec Power Stretch fleece shoulder inserts make sure you can climb, ski, and belay with full mobility. Elastic bindings secure the cuffs and hem, and there are chest and handwarmer pockets for convenience.

- Q & A
Great little down puffy jacket
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: Runs small
- Size Bought: XL
First off, I have now ordered this jacket, unlike my last review which was geared towards some of the prior reviews where this jacket was dinged. It's a great little down puffy. I'm not going to whip this out on a day when it's in the 30's and expect it to keep me super warm and toasty when I'm stationary. No, I will whip this out when I am briefly standing still for no more than 15-30 min and then put it back in my rucksack when I am on the move again. XL is the size to go at 5'11" and 210 in weight with a 41/42 R jacket size. Sleeve length is 35 and this jacket is spot on. Like most, but not ALL, EU brands, Haglofs tends to run on the smaller side. So go up one size larger than your standard US size and you'll be happy.
Nothing special, expensive
I returned this within 20 minutes of receiving it. I got blue/saffron and it's darker than the color in the pic and it didn't really pop at all as it does it the photo and on their site. Also it's an extremely lightly filled jacket. A Uniqlo that has more fill than this. The fit: I'm 5'9" 160 and a medium was really snug. The slim fit is trendy now, but this was the slimmest fit ever. For instance the new North Face L3 Hooded down in small is bigger than this by far. I just bought that one and returned it too because I don't like scuba hoods and I thought this would do the trick, but was just totally under-whelmed and the price at $309 is at least 50% too high.
