Let the party begin.

We’ve all sat in a high-mountain basecamp or a sweltering summer camp site after a long day and dreamt of a frosty margarita or a tasty cocktail. Thanks to the GSI Vortex Blender, that dream can be a reality. In addition to mixing up crowd-gathering cocktails, this portable party maker mixes up smoothies, sauces, pancake batter, and whatever else you want to throw in there. The two-speed gear and hand crank easily mash up ice, and a bottom C-clamp keeps the blender secured to a table, tailgate, or any other sturdy surface. When it’s time to move camp, the blender base stores easily in the pitcher until the next fiesta.

You can make it work, kind of.

I've used it several times

Purchased this for a rafting trip. The lid can be finicky to assemble and seal, but once you get used to it it works OK. It will blend ice. A lot of the ice will stay about pea sized, but what do you expect to get out of a hand blender? If you get really excited blending and try to get a smooth ice, you'll end up breaking the handle. It's cheap plastic that likely cost the company $0.50. It's also difficult to clean, because the base does not disassemble.

Questionable durability

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Really awesome idea but I'm not convinced. The second time I used it, it started leaking from the base of the pitcher. Still, it works much better than my portable car battery converter and dollar store blender! It blends great with its two different gears. Look at the bottom of my review for my contact info. Feel free to email or call if you have any questions about my review or this product.

You Need It

I've used it several times

I can't believe I went years without the Vortex Blender in my arsenal of car camping gear. You know what makes any campsite better? Frozen Margaritas. You know what seriously ups your street credit at the campsite? The Vortex Blender. Campers far and wide were amazed when I clamped this bad boy to the rig. It blends well, provides some serious luxury on the hot summer days and nights at camp, and doubles as an excellent upper body workout tool!

Cranks like Champ

I've put it through the wringer

Great blender. I was boating into a remote location for a week of camping. The Vortex Blender came in handy making smoothies needed due to medical restrictions on diet. Chopped up ice, fruit, dairy, blended protein powder and nutritional supplement easily. Courser produce like green leafy types were not blender quite as smoothly as electric blender at home. - regardless of gear selected or duration of blend. Still, given circumstances and technology it did a great job. Weighs every bit of the 4.75 lbs. declared so strictly for when you're not carrying all your weight on your back. Am quite happy with purchase. Highly recommend.

I've used it several times

It is pretty cool. I live off-grid so a hand crank blender was vital for making my homemade soups smooth. It doesn't get the soup 100% smooth like an electric blender would, but it's close. Maybe if the motor was stronger? haha The quality is pretty good. The blender base fits inside the pitcher (up side down) for easy storage, though I don't think the crank arm or clamp fits in there, so they just float around. The whole thing comes apart for easy cleaning. While it does have 2 speeds, I find the slow speed easier to turn and that is the one that gets used 99% of the time. I have not ever seen anything else like this, so nothing to compare it to. All in al it was a good buy and I love having this.

Backcountry Bartender

Love this thing. The two speeds are killer and it chops ice great. It'll also blend fresh fruit or veggies. I can honestly say, NOTHING is better than a frozen margarita on a river trip...

Hi There, would you be able to ship the Vortex Blender to the UK? And if so, how much would it cost to send? I look forward to receiving your reply. Kind regards Kitty

Am looking for the c clamp for this blender - anyone have any ideas of where I can get one?

GSI doesn't have a parts list listed on their site, but your best bet is to contact them directly to see what replacement parts they have available. They can be reached by phone at 1-800-704-4474 or via online form at

Write your answer here.....................Looks like a standard size C-clamp..Bring to a hardware store to see for sure what size fits and what size you are clamping to!!!!

I have the same problem, I clamped mine to a work top, and it didn´t undo cause the worktop was too thin, maybe I´m not the only one???
