Doesn’t shake well

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I bought this shaker because I liked the variety it would offer, having 6 compartments. I work as an outdoor guide, so I am backpacking 2 weeks a month and could use more flavor in my meals. I found the spice rocket to be unnecessarily heavy, and the holes in the cap were so small I had to shake for a minute to get enough spice out. I am still looking for better options but will be returning to using plastic baggies for now.

Light

It is light and holds everything you need JUST DON'T LOSE IT :D

must have spice rack for the backcountry

This little thing is awesome. Each level is divided into two half cylinders with a neat closure which makes filling easy. The labels are great for keeping track of whats inside. I combined two of these into one longer version for my base camp kit.

Good for quick access

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Great for those few quick spices that you need access to while cooking (instead of plastic zip-lock bags). One tip: don't over tighten the lids because as others have said they are fragile.

A Nifty Little Spice Kit!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

This is a nifty little spice kit. Just because you are in the backcountry doesn't mean you have to eat bland food. This kit has 6 seperate containers for you put an array of spices. The only flaw, its a little tough to refill the containers. I use a 1/4 tea spoon measuring cup and slowly fill it. This item gets the job done!

Great concept, questionable execution

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I love the concept of the product and originally bought it so that I could add a few different spices to dehydrated meals on longer trips. Unfortunately I'm on my second one where the top lid has cracked at the top, rendering the top portion useless. While I returned the first one, I was frustrated enough before my last trip where I just used duct tape to keep the top closed. While I like the product, I'm guessing there is something out there that provides a better all-around experience that lasts a little longer.

Spice Things Up

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Who doesn't need an adorable little spice holder while on long camping trips?! I love the fact that it holds 6 different spices and it only takes up a tiny amount of room. My favorite part is it comes with cute little labels so you don't mix up your spices.

for backpackers who need spice in life

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Super lite weight, great if you just can't live without a little garlic powder and salt and pepper on the trail.

Nice concept, poor construction

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

On the very first trip I took this guy on, the grey plastic top broke and split away around the sides of the threading for no apparent reason (no drop or abuse). I saw after the fact that someone else who had submitted a review here had the same problem. There is a lifetime warranty that I will use to replace the lid, but disappointing that it can't hold up to normal use.

This is genius.

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I've always wondered the best way to deal with a bunch of spices while camping, and GSI definitely nailed it with this one. I love how organized my kitchen supplies are now! The only downside is that it's a lot smaller than I expected, so I'm guessing I will be refilling the spice compartments often.

How can you hate having 6 spices?

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I really only purchased to carry 4 spices (Salt, Pepper, Tonys, and garlic powder) Its great that I can just detach one of the sections and take 2/3 of it with me.

Such a handy piece to have in your mess kit. Comes with many different spice labels, can carry up to 6 different spices, super easy to refill, and very easy to dispense. Eric Watford Expert Gearhead ewatford@backcountry.com 800-409-4502 Ext. 6069 Instagram: @ericwatford

HOW DID I SURVIVE WITHOUT IT!?

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have only used this a few times but I can tell already that I am in love. It is sooooo nice having all your favorite spices & flavors all in one awesome shaker. Super simple & very much needed.

I love my spice missile!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I think the spice missile is key for backcountry cooking! I love being able to carry my favorite seasonings into the backcountry and spice up all our meals. This missile is very durable, I have had mine for 2 seasons and it's seen heavy use, still no cracks. My missile has been left out in the rain and my spices stayed dry!

Good idea, poor construction

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I've had two GSI Outdoors Spice Missiles. The first one arrived with a broken plastic base. No big deal, I returned it and got a new one. The second one worked great for a few trips until I pull it out for one meal, and the top plastic "waterproof" cap was split on both sides. It didn't suffer a fall or any abuse, the plastic just couldn't hold up to normal use. I am really bummed to see such a good idea compromised due to poor materials. If GSI can make a shaker with better quality components, I would definitely buy it. The design and functionality of the Spice Missile is great, the longevity and durability is not.

Genius...

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

The spice missile is genius. No more eating bland food in the backcountry. I like to season my food when I'm at home and I prefer to do the same when I'm camping. The Spice Missile makes it possible. Make your culinary dreams come true, get one!!

No more bland backpacking food

I do a lot of cooking at home so going with unseasoned food on the trail was a pain. This thing is small, easy to use and actually works.
