    North Machine Ice Tool

Grivel designed the North Machine Ice Tool for all those odd ice and mixed routes on nearly every north-facing wall, but that doesn't mean it won't also work on other aspects.  It has an aggressive angle that focuses on a solid purchase following natural swings. Grivel gave the shaft an ergonomic, easy-to-handle feel and fine-tuned the Ice Plus blade for mixed or ice terrain. The blade comes with either a hammer or shovel for extra convenience.

All you need for big alpine missions

Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I have been using the Grivel North Machine for a few years now. They have been my tools of choice on climbs ranging from the Cassin Ridge on Denali, to the Ragni on Cerro Torre. The tools are really light weight and aggressive enough for anything you may encounter in an alpine setting. Before the North Machines I was using the Quantum Tech and I did love the size of the pinky rest on those tools. At first glance I was skeptical on the size of the pinky rest on the North Machines. After significant use I have found the pinky rest is slightly small for really steep or cauliflowered ice. However it plunges into the snow with very little resistance. This is an alpine dream tool I recommend for anyone looking for a lightweight technical tool for long committing alpine climbs. If you are looking for a steep ice and mixed tool check out the dark machine or tech machine.
