Clip it to your harness any time you're on the ice.

- Q & A
Not much to say, but it works! Nice little blade to cut webbing or cordalette.
V-Threads for Days
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
The Candela definitely gets the job done. As others have said, it's highly recommended that this rides along inside of a 22cm screw. It fits extremely well and has tabs that hold it inside of the screw so it doesn't accidentally fall out.
My only problem is with the retractable hook for pulling rope through–it works well, but it's a real bugger to fold into the working position with gloves on. I'm hoping it loosens up a bit with more use.
Nifty but unnecessary
The Candela seems like a good idea but unfortunately lacks enough ingenuity to be valuable enough or better than a piece of coat hanger. The integrated knife is nice but not as useful as an actual knife on a longer route. Also, the folding hook can be difficult to use w/ gloves on.
I've used this gadget for 2 seasons and love it. I keep it inside my bail-kit's 22cm abalakov screw nice and protected for when i need it. It functions to clear stubborn ice from a screw your second forgot to clear. It functions as a v-thread tool to snag the cord and clear the ice holes; the hook also stays hidden so it doesn't stab you. It also has a readily accessible knife for cutting cord or webbing. The Candella is quite a versatile all-in-one tool.
I wasn't too impressed with the durability of this tool. After a few outings this tool sure enough folded up in half and was useless. If you keep it protected in a pack all the time it will last maybe but don't plan on carrying this on your harness.
