Whether you're packing through the Wind Rivers or doing a quick overnighter in your home mountains, the Gregory Zulu 55 Backpack will carry all the gear you need while keeping your back cool and comfortable every step of the way. The Zulu is a lightweight pack with a ventilated backpanel that's been specifically designed to allow air to pass between your back and the pack, and a spring steel frame to comfortably support heavy loads without weighing you down or causing hotspots.
Packing and organizing gear in the Zulu is made easy with the front U-zip access panel and bottom sleeping bag compartment, and the front stash pocket provides an ideal spot to stash rain layers, maps, and whatever else you need quick access to. You can also throw two water bottles in the side pockets and deploy the integrated rain cover when an unanticipated afternoon shower catches you by surprise. Gregory also threw in its Sidekick summit pack, which can be detached and used on its own, so you can quickly rally from high camp to the summit without having to haul more gear than you'll actually need.

Decent affordable pack
I wanted to update my review of this pack now that I’ve had a good hand full of trips with it. I’d say it’s a decent pack for small trips or maybe someone who doesn’t backpack very often. I’m finding it hasn’t really held up well at all. Several buckle attachments are ripping. Zippers don’t work, especially in the hip belt. The chest buckle has also broken. So overall does the job but not very impressed with it. Probably wouldn’t buy again.

Comfortable cushioning some quirks and issues
I bought this a couple of years ago. I have only used it 4 times. I chose it for the comfort and breathability, I have only used it in the summer heat in the Adirondack High Peaks. The cushioned straps are great, the pockets on the hip belt fit my Pixel phone and zip close. Yes that can be an issue, maybe newer packs are better at that. All the zippers work good. Capacity - not sure how to compare but I only do 2-3 day overnights. I carried about 28-38 lbs. I can comfortably fit a tent w/poles, sleeping bag, small blow up sleeping pad, clothes , food, cooking gear, etc in the main compartment. In the brain I put lights, other small stuff, usual first aid, wipes, bug spray, etc. The top pocket in brain is not square and wastes valuable space. It has a bottom "section" with zipper opening but just part of main compartment, access there is handy. Could not fit a bear can inside, but could strap it down under the brain or swap it out with the tent stored under the brain. Over stuffing the bag defeats some of the breathability by pushing the mesh back panel closer to your back. Not sure if there are other ways to pack this, I'm still experimenting. Couldn't fit my 28 liter day pack inside either but lashed it to back of pack with a separate strap, horizontal straps across back for this purpose would be a great addition Gregory! Fit- I am 5' 7 160 lbs, 33-34 waist for most pants but small hips. I was fitted at REI with a M/L but when I tighten the waist belt I'm at max tight and it slips. The specs say 29" minimum waist... That's a no. This is an issue with heavy pack as I feel weight on front of shoulder straps fairly quick as my hip belt slides down. The pack is a little bouncy and sways a little since it sits away from your back, makes stability a bit of challenge on ADK trails, and especially when stepping sideways off rocks or when poles go into mud. Be careful, I have fallen from this. Maybe I'm just too old or not strong enough but factor that in. The bounciness causes some squeaking of that bothers you and contributes to the slippage on my hips. I think slick water resistant pants and shirts also contribute to slippage on all packs. I like many features of the pack and haven't tried others but some fixing is in order, especially the waist belt.

Great bag!
Easy to use back and comfortable! some aspects of function could be better, like a bottom side slip pocket. Its great for shorter multi day treks, but lacking in function if looking for something more than a week.

This should be a great pack for shorter trips. I have a Zulu 30 that I really like.

Zulu Rocks
Zulu bags are the best all-around bag. Great fit, comfortable, lots of space, good pockets and compartments. The mesh back really helps to keep the air flowing when it is hot.

Zulu 55L Bag Review
This bad was absolutely amazing. Went and backpacked 30+ miles with it this weekend and it did all you need a bag to do. Rain fly is awesome. The free float suspension felt amazing and I didn’t feel any back pain like my old bag. Overall design is amazing and well thought out I would highly recommend this bag to anyone looking for a all around great bag.

Excellent backpack
Nice mid-range size for backpacking. Excellent range of adjustment on torso and shoulders, its easy to setup the weight correctly for different sized users so it rides correctly and feels stable. After 2 years of consistent use have had no issues with zippers, buckles, or straps - the quality has been excellent. Definitely recommend.

Great overall back pack!!
Very comfortable on my 20+ mile hike. The different pocket options made it easier to pack and access equipment on the trail. The adjustable straps made sure it was a perfect fit. Great weight distribution, I started with close to 40 pounds and the pack still felt light. The ease of use and price makes it a great beginning backpack, but with the weight and durability makes it so it could be used for more advanced hikes.

Hi, I saw from a few videos that this pack has an "extension" or "spin drift" collar that extends the volume capacity at the top of the pack. Is this extra volume included in the 55L, or does it expand the capacity past 55L (and by how much)?
