Tetrad 60L Backpack

The Gregory Tetrad 60 Backpack is an adventure travel pack designed for summer trips traveling through foreign countries. It has a 60L capacity sized for a week's worth of everyday essentials, and a detachable daypack lets you tackle daily activities with the rest of your gear stored back in the hostel. There's a 3-in-1 travel cover that doubles as a rain cover for wet weather, and triples as a check-in cover for flights. The Active Shield compartment separates your dirty boots and clothing to keep the main compartment nice and clean, and it's easy to clean and resistant to odor, vapor, and dirt. Gregory made the back panel with a supportive alloy frame wrapped in 3D foam for breathable, padded comfort. This back panel also includes an adjustable torso to custom fit any body. All the zippers are lockable for extra security on your travels.

3 months in Europe

I loved the separate shoe/water compartment in the bottom. We traveled through the Azores, Mainland Portugal, Spain, Croatia and France. We brought spring suits with us as we were traveling in early June and the water was still a little chilly. The shoe/water pouch worked great to store our wetsuits as they would still be damp and our dirty hiking shoes. The main bag was easy to pack and access the entire compartment. I liked the quick access pouch at the top of the main pack as it was a good spot to store passports and documents. The zip away day pack was great. We would use it for day hikes in town, beach bag, as well as long hikes. It was super quick and easy to disconnect for boarding when using as a carry on and checking in the bigger bag. It needed a waist strap, however, especially carrying a Nikon D750 with my Peak Design clip and lots of water. Overall, it was a great bag for the extended trip.

Great travel backpack

By separating the day pack from the main pack, I had no trouble carrying both on domestic and international flights. I was able to fit plenty for a 3 week trip. I love having the separable day pack for hikes and cities and attaching to the larger pack for travel between destinations. My hope was that I could fly without checking bags- and it worked!

A great option for soft adventure and international travel

The Gregory Tetrad is two packs in one, which means when you buy it, you have another one. That alone makes it pretty great. And while most people will be attracted immediately to the Tetrad's practical zip-off daypack, once I truly dug into this bag as a whole, got it dirty, and tossed it about, I realized this is as close as you can get to omni-adventure luggage. The Tetrad's built-in, zip-off shuttlecraft is a great solution for those times when travel requires leaving part of your haul somewhere else, like a hostel room or town tourist office. There are a multitude of uses, and the internal wet-storage compartment smartly hides wet trunks, wetsuits, and rain gear. It can pack just about enough for a weekend camping trip, if your tent is small, but it's highest and best use is the kind of trips that find you in a hotel room somedays, in a tent the others, and on and off different modes of mass transit. I'm kind of a bag nut, and find the Tetrad to be slowly rising up the ranks with each trip I take. I can't wait to get it out again once the virus crisis subsides.

Great travel bag with almost no flaws.

- Very nice quality construction, all around. - The harness is great for a travel bag, as comfortable as most true backpacking bags with great adjustability. I was impressed by the load lifters and the hip belt tensioners. The detachable day-bag is also quite comfortable to the point where now I sometimes carry it as a standalone small backpack. - The full U-Zip opening makes packing very easy and the main compartment holds 2 Medium Cubes (13.8'' x 9.8'' x 4'' ), and 1 Small Cube (11.6'' x 6.7'' x 4'' ) perfectly with space on top of them for a couple of jackets. I also used the mesh zip panel on the inside of the main flap to store an extra pair of pants and a t-shirt in case baby accidents forced me to change clothes. The active-shield could be useful at times, I did sometimes use it for dirty baby clothes but a grocery bag would have done the trick. - The attachment system for securing the day-bag to the main pack is easy and I found it pretty quick to take on and off as we got on and off flights, just don't overpack the two bags. - The main pack fits great in overhead compartments, even on American Eagle puddle-jumpers. - Day-bag fits my 15" DELL Gaming laptop despite the fact that the laptop sleeve is mounted above pack floor level to protect the laptop. It is a tight squeeze but I was happy it fit the laptop and protected it. Now the bag has just a couple nit-picky downsides: - Lack of small-item organization, the day bag did not even have a single pen holder (See photos of just two interior elasticized mesh pockets). - Like any of the travel backpacks that load the laptop on the outer bag (pretty much every 2-in-1 bag that isn't the ozone duplex) this bag will have a bit of a wonky weight distribution that may try to push the back of your pants down. - Not the bag I would bring if theft is a concern at your destination, no real serious anti-theft features (doesn't bother me). - Would have liked the option of securing the day-bag to the front when wearing.
