Good Youth Backpack
This is my 10-year-old son's first backpack of this level. All he could handle was a daypack up to this point because I couldn't find an adjustable youth pack that was made well and was adjustable. This is definitely a good mix of both. It has many of the features of some of the larger packs in a youth format. What I like is that it is simple in the sense there aren't a lot of pockets for gear to get lost. The straps were a little hard for him to figure out, but once we got it setup he had no problems. There is an adjustable velcro back that can adjust based on his torso-length as he ages. It has some markings to align it and also to keep track of the height. It was very easy to adjust for him. My only complaint is that the plastic insert for stability is not very strong. It wants to curl up and it pushes the pack slightly into him. It's not a problem if it's fully packed, but anything less eventually leads to this.

Second Generation
My daughters first ruck sack and her first comment was "We need to get patches". Dad has an old 1996 65L with destination patches galore. She knows we don't play with rollers.

My son used this backpack we he began backpacking this summer and he loved it. Enough room for his sleeping bag, clothes, and food with room to strap his sleeping bad and fishing pole to the outside. He said he loved the pack and that it was comfortable.

Great first backpack
My 8 year old loved it, the first moment he tried it on. Carried it on his first backpacking trip without complaint. This is a kid who always complains about wearing a day pack while hiking.

My 6-year old daughter likes it!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] She's on the small side for 6 -- 45 lbs, 45 inches tall. When I tightened the straps and buckled it on her, I worried that she is a little too small for it; but she carried it about 6 miles on our overnight and did fine. When she grows a bit more it should fit really well.

Is the minimum waist truly 26” or can it accommodate a smaller waist? My daughter has a 22” waist right now.
