The Granite Gear Splitrock Backpack's spacious capacity is contained within multiple specialized compartments to make it ideal for all of your day-to-day adventures. The main compartment is the largest and is tall and slim to accommodate books, folders, and your laptop, while smaller items can be stored in either the pocket above the main compartment, or the vertically-zippered quick access pocket and the a handy multi-pocket organizer.
The Splitrock also boasts a stash pocket with a water-resistant Barrier zipper and Gear-Tec laptop sleeve that is padded and large enough to carry up to 17-inch laptops. Ready for the elements, Granite Gear constructed the Splitrock with Repelaweave and Taurpalite, which are two very durable and weather resistant fabrics. Like the rest of the pack, the Splitrock’s Trail-Tested load carrying technology is also crafted with care and features ventilated, load-absorbing shoulder straps, a comfortable foam back panel, and a load-bearing hide-away hip belt that helps take the pressure off your shoulders.

If you didn't try it, don't buy
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
It has a layout that I need. That is the only good thing I can say about it right now.
Backpack is not light(~2.5lbs), but that is ok. Straps are awful, because instead of a more-less standard soft foam they are made form super hard substance, so it hearts a little bit, because it is more like plastic then foam.
I am giving a chance for this backpack, only because I have hope that designers had something in mind when they chose that super-duper firm foam.
Overall quality is good, I don't have anything bad to say. It is not osprey-like quality, but it is much cheeper.
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I need a go bag for weekend trips and this is everything I wanted. The laptop area doubles as a hydro reservoir for outdoors, or getting my ps4+laptop through TSA. It's comfortable, sits nice and high on my back, distributes weight well, and feels like a more expensive pack in that despite its own weight (I got it b/c I needed sturdier for flying and daily use), and whatever I have inside, it is easy to wear. The only complaint so far is that the plastic clips on the zippers are uniformly coming off, but not a big deal. As a backpack not daypack, I heart it. love the multi pocket access, a place for ID, keys, quick reach accessories, and a separate spacious middle area. I get so much stuff in this bag it's pretty awesome. And the neon pink and yellow colors I now like a lot, and don't have any hesitation wearing it as an adult. It fits in pretty well in Colorado, but I suppose it's Colorado, and everyone pretty much uses outdoor gear as daily accessories...
very bright and a bit plasticky
Haven't used it yet, but I'm a mature working parent and the colors of the one I ordered are a little too neon for everyday, so I'm going to get the quieter but still cheerful Verbena for me. However, my child fell in love with the print one I purchased, so I'll be keeping that one, too. The straps are strangely plastic, but not necessarily in a bad way.
