The beauty of the Crown 38 is that it strikes a great balance between weight and structure. The hard plastic insert is an effective and sturdy frame, but Granite Gear has not sacrificed weight in order to achieve that. I'm a recovering ultra-heavy backpacker, and the smaller size of the Crown 38 helps me prioritize what is actually needed and keep my base weight down. BV450 fits nicely (but not BV500). Side and front pockets are large and easy to access. Hip belt is very comfortable and the zipper pockets have more space than any pack I have previously owned--this has been a nice convenience. So far I have not seen any flaws in construction or quality after several overnight trips in the Rockies. I would highly recommend this pack. I don't expect I'll be using anything else for many years to come.
