Pack covers are useful, so long as they're light—otherwise you'll hem and haw over whether to bring it, and then when it rains, Murphy's Law guarantees you'll have left it behind. The Granite Gear's Cloud Cover Pack Fly weighs less than four ounces, but keeps your pack bone-dry, so no compromises are needed.

Does what it supposed to do!

I've used it several times

Great pack cover. no problems so far. Bought it for a Kelty Pack and it works well, despite being from a different manufacturer.

Does the job

I've used it several times

Its small, lightweight and adds extra water resistance to your pack. I don't think its going last a really long time but that's to be expected from a product this light. Fits my Osprey pack well. Note that it comes in assorted colors. My size medium came in bright orange.

Keep Dry

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I recently purchased the med for my GG Leopard 58 and it fits great with room to spare when my pack is bursting at the seams or I have my Z rest pad on the outside of my pack. The random colors are fun, after all it is just a rain cover. I landed a turquoise color that I am happy with. As another reviewer has mentioned, it is a tedious game of Tetris to get this sucker back into its little bag. When stored this rain cover doesn't take up much room at all and let's face it, many times a rain cover will be a 'just in case' item that may just live in the bottom of the pack. This cover is super lightweight compared to other brands yet still apprears to be holding up better than other uber lightweight options on the market. Have not been able to use this a ton...yet, but with fall right around the corner, I am certain to find myself relying on this plenty back in the Uintas!

Fits the bill

I think the fly is unnecessarily expensive, but it does its job well. I like that the stuff sack is actually stitched with the fly, so you don't have to worry about storing the sack away separately when you're using the fly. The fly barely fits in the stuff sack so it does take a minute or so to stuff it all in there, but no big deal. The fly is red, not white/gray as the backcountry photo shows. It would've been 5 starts for me had it been made of lighter material (maybe cuben fiber).

Great Pack Fly

Super light weight and effective pack fly.

Not as good as the older model

I have a Cloud Cover pack fly from 2005 that is still going strong after 1,000 miles on the AT and multiple weekend hikes, so I ordered another one for my Osprey Talon 44 (XS fits perfectly - the S is too big, I tried that first). The attached stuff sack on this is very small, making it hard to put away. (It's harder than getting my sleeping bag liner in it's teeny stuff sack - I much prefer the bigger bag on the older Cloud Cover model.) The bungee cord is also tough to use at first - I think it needs to break in because it did get better after playing with it for a while. If I didn't have such a great experience with my older Granite Gear pack fly I probably would return this. The upside is that it's definitely small and lightweight. I haven't used this in the rain yet, but I have no doubt it will be waterproof.

Kept my Son's Backpack Dry

I purchased this for my 11-year-old son who was going on a Boy Scout backpacking trip. This seemed a bit expensive for a plastic cover. I mean, wouldn't a tarp or poncho do? But, I am SO glad I bought this b/c it rained and it rained hard! I checked my son's pack, and bought the right size. He was able to put it around his pack with no trouble. When he got home, this cover was wet and dirty/muddy, but his pack was dry! It folds up into a small attached sack (estimate about 3X2X2") and is lightweight. My son told me it was great! He was glad he had it. He took it to overnight camp this week to cover his duffle bag, which is about the same size as his pack. This cover is smaller and less cumbersome than a tarp. I believe he'll get a lot of use out of this, so it was worth the money!

Good so far

kept my stuff dry. Has a nice pull cord around it so you can tighten it.

Not perfect

Used on the Inca Trail and in the jungle in Peru during rainy season over an Osprey Talon 33. This item weighed the same, but seemed less sturdy and didn't fit as well as the Sea to Summit Ultralight cover. (I ordered one of each for the Peru trip for my husband and myself.) I did like the light weight and small amount of room needed... these were identical to Sea to Summit, and I would choose Sea to Summit over Granite Gear for this product.

Backpack Rain Cover

I ordered this to cover my backpack, to protect my laptop computer. This is a replacement due to my mistake. When I got the correct size, it rained 2 days later, and boy am I glad I had this. It protected my laptop and everything else. I decided to keep the original one for my larger backpack, and it works great. will always get my recomendation for online shoppers!
