    Go off grid.

Whether you've gotten separated from your group at Burning Man, or the zombie apocalypse has come at last, should cell phone towers fail you, the goTenna Mesh can help facilitate communication between you and your loved ones. The goTenna mesh connects to your smartphone using Bluetooth, permitting you to create a low frequency radio wave network that allows you to share text messages and GPS locations with other Mesh users.

The goTenna Mesh allows you to communicate not only with the partner Mesh device, but with any other Mesh users in the area. If you happen to be too far from your friends, other holders in the area will be able to boost your signal and bounce your message on down the line. At 1.7 ounces, it's considerably lighter than most hand-held radio transmitters, and thanks to an adjustable silicone attachment strap, it's easy to clip on to your belt or a backpack.

    The Ability to Communicate, Anywhere!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

GoTenna Mesh is the best way to share your location and communicate in the backcountry, period.

My wife and I have two girls (ages 5 & 7) and our favorite activities to do together are canyoneering and backpacking. Often times we find ourselves hundreds of feet above or below eachother, or in different places for various reasons (taking the kids to go to the bathroom, one child wanted to sleep longer while the other wanted to hike, etc...) and prior to finding the GoTenna Mesh, it was difficult to communicate, and especially difficult to share our locations if we were separated. We would use walkie talkies, but those can have interrupted signals and definitely do not share GPS locations. The GoTenna has completely solved those challenges for us and brings great peace of mind when we find ourselves outside of cell reception.

A few of the features that made the device a game changer for us and are worth noting to anyone deciding whether to purchase or not are:

    - You can share your precise GPS location so the other party in your group can be lead straight to you.
    - It has a range of up to 4 miles and a 0.5 miles in dense locations
    - You can text a single individual or use group messaging.
    - It handles very well in wet and rugged conditions.

The GoTenna website says the devices handle a rainstorm or minor drops in water well but are not waterproof. We had a failure of our dry bag while swimming through a slot canyon and after a few hours I pulled it out of a completely drenched bag and it started right up with no issues then or since. So if you worry about durability like I do, these devices can definitely take a beating and continue to keep you dialed in.

Overall, if you are like us and find yourselves out of cell reception often and need the ability to communicate off the grid, the GoTenna Mesh is by far the best option out there.

(A quick note about the video - we often times strap the device to the girls harnesses so we have quick access to them as we generally don't turn them on unless we are using them or know we plan to separate)

Hey Mike! Awesome Review - Just a quick questions for you to clarify. The device itself is just a signal and you connect it to your phone to actually send GPS, messages, etc? Can you send regular text messages or do you use an app to communicate with other users?

    Peace of mind

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have used these on hikes, mountain bikes and long road trips and am so in love with this product. I fell biking and my boyfriend was a bit ahead of me, I was able to use the GoTenna to contact him in a no service area so that he could come back to help me. Also great in the backcountry. Would be perfect during festivals, concerts, and so much more. It is very small and lightweight and I have never had an issue with it working great for us.

    Peace of mind

    Communication is key

    They rock!
I have the original and the newer mesh versions.
This device is tiny and awesome. Use while camping, hiking, sking, exploring, sporting events, long plane flights and even during the zombie apocalypse. I have multiple devices for the mesh factor. Recently I was leading 20+ non-outdoor people on a hike through trails. We split up in groups. We were able to effectivly communicate from one side of a mountain to another. (I placed one devise on the mountain peak the morning of). So for 12 hours I was able to track the location of each group coordinate medical attention (blisters and dehydration) accordingly. Get everyone back to the cars on time and back for dinnwr and whiskey. This is something that the radios failed to do. (Trust me we tried). I keep a pair in my glove box just in case we end up at a large even where cell coverage is lacking or could be an issue. It is a piece of mind knowing I have it if I need it. If you check out the webpage and see how many others have them it's really cool. There So many uses I cannot name them all. Lets just say its such a great idea our troops are using them.

A must for enjoying the back country

The original goTenna is a great product, however the goTenna mesh takes it to a whole new level. Like many reviewers have said the size is much smaller and it is so light in weight that you barely notice it in a pocket. These are a must for anyone who goes to packed events like football or the great outdoors where cell signal may be non-existent. However, There are so many other uses for them. You can get them for your kids so they can communicate and stay in touch with you if they only have an wifi iPad or iPod touch or as natural disaster preparedness. Basically these are a must for everyone and as a bonus as more people get them everyone has a wider network to communicate.
