Laugh in the face of Mother Nature.

Telling yourself "I think that storm will go around us" is a surefire way to get the clouds to open up as soon as you hit the road, and while Gore Bike Wear's Oxygen 2.0 Gore-Tex Active Shell Men's Jacket won't convince the weather to change, it will protect you from its angriest outbursts. Active Shell is Gore-Tex's most breathable membrane, so you won't become sweat-soaked in an attempt to ward off rain, and Gore engineered the Oxygen with zippered vents at the forearms and sides to help you stay cool when the drizzle takes a brief break. The side vents also provide easy access to jersey pockets, so you can stuff gloves and ear warmers in when you don't need them.

Cut slim, the Oxygen will slide comfortably over a jersey but won't flap in the breeze when you get low during a wet and extra-exciting descent. A partially elastic hem keeps your lower back covered up when you're in the drops and the high collar sits comfortably against your neck. The collar is also reinforced, which makes working the front zipper with one hand a simple task. Gore finishes the Oxygen with a full complement of reflective details so you don't find yourself being ridden off the road by sleepy commuters when you're out for a misty, early-morning training ride.

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 143lbs

This jacket has a very nice race plus fit (not Castelli-like tight, but not really "club fit"). They make the fabric for most all other quality manufactures, so you know what to expect there--top notch. It has a very long tail that features just the right amount of elastic to actually hold it in place. The cuffs have nice zippers to easily fit over gloves and to increase ventilation when necessary. They are laser cut so fit very well, but I do wonder about their durability. The jacket has very functional jersey access zippers on both sides (the Castelli version only has one small right-side one). It has a nice tall collar that stays up with reflective piping across the top. The jacket also has many reflective elements. My only complaint (that I can live with) is that it has a left-hand zipper and the dreaded zipper garage (some scissors may fix the later).

    Not true to size

    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Large he typically wears medium but thought L in jacket would be better

Too bad a large men's was more like a small & this was one of his Christmas gifts he wanted so much. a disappointment as competitive cyclist is our pick for cycle gear

Does what it is meant to do, very well

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is a great piece of foul weather cycling gear. The Gore Active is very breathable and even when it can't completely keep up the interior never feels clammy. The two back zips vent very well. I wish it had at least one pocket, but if you're wearing a cycling jersey underneath the back zips provide easy access. The collar and cuffs have reflective dots; combined with the small reflective strips in back, visibilty at night seems to be good. This is definitely a bike specific cut/fit. Everything is exactly where it should be when you're in the drops; just don't mistake it for something you think you might want to hike in. The sleeves are, by design, long. There are zippers at the cuffs in-line with the sleeves (i.e., along the forearms) that make getting a snug fit over the lower half of your gloves easy. The cuffs are a thin but seemingly sturdy stretchy material so getting a basically airtight fit is easy. I think this is one of the best features. At 6'1" and 175, the large fits perfectly. I upgraded to this after I got caught in a torential rainstorm on my commute home wearing a Gore Windstopper shell. That wind was stopped, but I was soaked.

    Unanswered Question

Would this jacket pack small enough to fit in a jersey pocket? Looking at a size large.
