    Extra warmth. Extra support.

We all have felt the chilling effects of long, off-season rides on our extremities. But have you ever really thought about your core? Sure, you put on a baselayer and a wind-cheating jacket, but are you really staying as warm as you should be? For bitterly cold days, when you just have to get out and ride, don the Gore Bike Wear Universal Kidney Warmer to keep your core warm as well as support your lower back.

The Kidney Warmer outer layer of Gore's Windstopper fabric keeps any chill that may seep through your jacket away from your skin. In addition, a fleece lining means that it won't chafe against your skin. But keeping you warm isn't its only function. Vertical fishbones have been sewn into the structure, which makes it look similar to a corset. They are designed to support your lower back. This is especially important for long off-season rides or even for Radonnees or multi-day tours. Because, as we know, even if bike fit is perfect, unless we work on core strength religiously, back pain hits us all once in a while.

The Gore Bike Wear Universal Kidney Warmer is available in Sizes Small through XX-Large and in the color Black.

    Interesting concept

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'5"
    • Weight: 175lbs

So this is a pretty nifty little item. I'll admit I saw it and wondered, "Why would anyone every need this?" However, I saw a few good reviews in a couple places saying it was awesome to have, so I figured, why not give it a try? The boning in the back is a really great idea. For me at least, it helps a little bit with cycle posture, which is a place I am still lacking while in the saddle. I felt no discomfort while bending over riding while wearing. The soft lining on the inside feels great against the skin, and I don't see it causing much, if any chaffing on longer riders. The only downfall I found with this item is the sizing. I ordered a large, and felt that it should have had just an inch longer of velcro grip. However, this wasn't a deal breaker. I'm not convinced that ordering the XL would have helped any, as this might have made it a little too big. Also, it would have been nice to have both a woman and man size fit for this item instead of universal. This might have helped with varying torso size. Overall, I'm going to say this item isn't for everyone, but for those who can appreciate its use, it will be much loved and is worth a shot!

Somebody experiences with Size XL Kidney Warmers, does it
fit a big guy like me 50 inch waist?
    Thanks

I have the Medium, which according to the charts fits a 31-33" waist. When I wrap it around my 32" waist, there's an extra 2+" or so to accommodate a larger waist size. If the XL is similar, it may accommodate a max waist of 46", 47" tops.

You can always buy and return if it doesn't fit, too.

    HTH.
