Lacked Flavor
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Texture and consistency were fine. However, it just didn't have much flavor. I asked everyone in camp for some salt with no luck, so I forced myself to eat it all, but it wasn't that good. I'd actually buy it again, but am bringing some seasoning with me next time.

Great after a long day
I really love all Good to Go meals - great for adding variety to my traditional backpacking dishes! The risotto is hearty, and I definitely look forward to it after a long day!

I was a big fan of this, it was great when my vegetarian husband and I were craving something substantial after a full day on the trail.

When we made this meal we accidentally opened this a few minutes early and it was soupy. We also read at higher elevations they recommend cooking a few minutes longer which is what this meal needed. Although it was a little soupier, the flavor was delicious and the rice was still cooked enough to enjoy. I hope I cook this right next time because the flavor was delicious!

Savory and Delicious

I can't say enough good things about Good To-Go. Their meals are delicious, and this one is no exception. I think the risotto complements their other meals nicely, as it has a rich, savory, milder flavor than the other spicy offerings. This would be a great option for day 2 or 3 of a backpacking trip after eating the Pad Thai and Curry options

The Best
- Familiarity:

I've eaten most of the Good to Go meals and liked some more than others. I think this is my favorite. The flavors are subtle and complex. It makes any camping trip feel decadent. I highly recommend this meal.

This stuff is so good. It's risotto, so you have to pay a little more attention when cooking this than other dehydrated meals, but if you follow the instructions it'll turn out great. And you won't be disappointed.

Like a lot of other reviews said, you have to be careful cooking this one or it can come out really crunchy or runny. However! Even when it has come out crunchy and runny in the past, this has still been one of the best meals I've taken while camping. I usually take backpacking meals when camping out the night before hiking in to climb. Most of the meals left me really bloated and uncomfortable the next day...not ideal for climbing. I've never had that issue with these meals because it's just plain old wholesome food. For the mushroom risotto (my personal favorite) just boil the water a little longer and be sure to stir really well before and after heating it up. But, even if you don't, it'll be the best risotto soup you ever have in the backcountry.

for backpacking food, it's gourmet
- Familiarity:

I made these wrong and had them a little too watered down, but they were still all right. If I had made it right it would have been better. Read the instructions ;) Also the 2 servings was too much for me so I'll look single from now on. I bought this again and when made right it is much better! Though still a little on the runny side. Boil the water a little longer to get the water hotter and your rice won't be as crunchy either. I shared this with my hiking partner and even with 2 of us it is a lot of food! It is a heavy meal so I am not sure I will get this flavor again. I prefer lighter, like the Pad Thai or Thai curry this brand makes.

I generally make my backpacking meals from scratch, so I haven't taken these out in the backcountry, but I ADORE these quick, delicious meals for traveling. I'm vegan, so sometimes on long road trips or when I'm climbing/skiing in remote locations/countries where vegan options don't always abound, these are SO damn nice in a pinch when you're tired, hungry, and desparate (I'm all about trying local cuisine, but places like rural Iceland have not been as easy to find veggie noms in as say, Nepal). They're even a great air-travel companion, as you can toss one in a carry-on, snag a cup of boiling water from a flight attendant, and have this luxurious, perfectly herbed risotto in just a few minutes. Who likes airplane food anyway?!

Love mushrooms?

Then this is the backcountry easy-cook meal for you! Delicious and filling, easy to prepare, gluten-free and vegetarian friendly, what more could you ask for? It is a little heavy on the mushroom taste so if boomers are not your cup of tea I'd recommend another flavor but all in all I was very impressed. Nutrition label pic attached
