Compact power source for smaller devices.
The fact is that we rely more and more on electronics all the time, even when we're out on the wilderness. Since outlets are few and far between in the backcountry, count on the Goal Zero Nomad 7 Plus Solar Panel to smaller devices such as smartphones, headlamps, and GPS systems fully juiced. It's also an excellent choice for charging some of Goal Zero's smaller batteries, such as the Flip 10, so you can store power for later. This new and improved Nomad model is lighter and smarter than previous incarnations.
Perhaps the biggest upgrade, the new Auto Restart feature knows the difference between a device that's reached a fully charged state and one that disconnects due to cloud cover or a shadow. When it's been disconnected due to environmental causes, the Nomad 14 Plus will automatically reconnect the charging device, so you don't get back to basecamp only to find that your phone stopped charging hours ago because a rogue cloud moved in. Another smart feature is the easy-to-read LED indicator, which lets you know the strength of solar conditions and provides immediate feedback on charging speed.
When the sun's not overhead, the detachable kickstand lets you prop it up so you angle the panel to where the sun's strongest. It's also built tough and waterproof so you don't have to baby it in the backcountry, and its compact, lightweight design means you can take it on extended backpacking trips or other excursions where space is limited.
- Reengineered to be lighter and smarter than ever
- Charges USB devices directly from the sun
- Folding design allows for compact storage and carrying
- LED indicator shows solar strength and charging speed
- Rugged, waterproof construction for outdoor adventures
- Auto Restart tracks power flow history
- Detachable kickstand allows better adjustability

Did the job!
A desert charging station is key for a few days in southern utah. This worked well and was able to keep our maps and lights charged. I would highly recommend!

Packs and light
The little sibling to the Nomad 14, this solar panel is fairly light and is really great for backpacking and charging a small power bank. I paired it with the Sherpa 40 which charged fully in just a half-day with moderate sunlight. It comes with a couple of little carabiners that clip on the corners so you can hang it up on a pack while moving or a tree when in camp. There are a couple of really cool features of this solar panel. These being the magnetic frame and the magnetic stand. The panels fold up and are magnetized so it doesn't fall apart all the time. The stand is a little tricky, but there is a tiny edge in which to pull on to pop it out. It's really nice to angle the panel to the sun.

Has durability issues
This solar panel does the job of charging things. Note - it does not hold a charge, as there is no attached battery. You will have to charge up a separate battery if you want to store energy. Otherwise, for charging phones, gps units, or other small appliances, it does the job. If you are backpacking or on a climbing expedition and worried about weight, this is the size you want. If you aren't, go with the next size up, as the larger panels will charge your devices quite a bit faster. I knock a couple stars off because of durability. The panel is made of nice enough material, and is really slick, but the glue used to keep the built in stand and storage area for the cords comes apart easily. I've seen 3 now with this issue. Eventually, it all falls off and you have a mess on your hands. Probably easy to fix with your own epoxy, but for $100 MSRP and a name on it like GZ, it should last longer in original condition than it does.

Used this all week while camping in Lake Powell, AZ. You could say there were rays for days! And that meant charged speakers, phones, lighting devices and all the other gadgets in between! Really awesome product and extremely well made.

A wild solar panel in its natural habita
I recently brought this solar panel on a 2 week backpacking trip through the Sierra Nevadas and I am sure glad I did! On a long backpacking trip, a solar panel feels like an unnecessary piece of gear and extra weight, but I found it helpful on my trip and donât regret bringing it. Since I was using Gaia for navigation on the trail, having battery was important. After trying the solar panel in different types of light and hanging arrangements, here are some things I found: +TIME OF DAY: The solar panel works best when it is in direct sunlight between 10:30-4:00pm. The morning and evening sun seemed to provide less of a charge then bright afternoon sunlight. +SET-UP: A lot of people seem to hang their solar panels on the outside of their packs. I found that this method, while convenient, does not give you the best charge. Too often was I hiking through tree coverage, and this very on and off light source almost drained my battery more than helped it. During hiking breaks and lunch, I would take out the panel and lay it somewhere with sun. Depending on the area and day, the panel would charge about 5% every 30 minutes. Its slow going but worth it to keep the juices flowing. Unless youâre hiking in direct sunlight with no coverage, the panel works best laying out for extended periods of time. I would recommend bringing an external battery pack if youâre going on a trip longer than 2 weeks, just to have a back-up option.

Still Very Helpful
Brought this out on a weekend camping trip. I was a little confused at first as it did not hold a charge and you had to have the device plugged in. No big deal though it was still incredibly helpful to have with us.

Converting sunlight to energy
The Nomad solar panel is rad! Lightweight, easy to use. My one complaint is that this solar panel doesn't have a regulator so when the sky became overcast it drained my battery. I prefer to have a regulator so I can leave the solar panel out when I'm gone and come back to full batteries.

Light and Minimalist
The design and weight on this is amazing. Very easy to set up and pack away. I really appreciate that it tells you how strong the charge is, so you know when to change the position the panels. It charges 20% of my Venture battery in 1.5 hours of full sun. I do intend to buy more and daisy chain them , since you need quite a bit of solar to quickly charge. But, this size is perfect for backpacking and other endeavors where you need to keep the weight down.

Great for camping
I used this on a weekend camping trip! Works great if there's sun (obviously) I was confused as it does not hold the power, but can directly charge when there's sun. Really lightweight too!

light weight convenient
This is really handy and easy to use. It is great to charge your camera phones, etc. I paired this with the Sherpa 40 recharger. I agree with others that the design is great with the zipper pouch to store cords etc

Lightweight and Convenient!
Having a lightweight/compact/weatherproof solar panel when you're traveling, camping, or backpacking is a super nice luxury to have. Simple, functional, and high quality design is something you can count on from Goal Zero. The zipper pocket, kickstand, and magnetic closure are all nice features. I'd strongly suggest getting a power bank as well if you want to be able to store a charge.

The zipper back panel is awesome! I love that you can keep all of your cords organized and together. This was a huge benefit as when you are camping or road tripping and your gear gets moved around at every stop, it was super nice to know that all the cords were always with the solar panel. We used it every day to charge our phones and camera via usb. It was awesome!
