Goal zero Boulder 100

This Boulder 100 replaces one the deer broke the cable on. It is in a chain of 3 supplying power to the Goal zero Yeti 1250 watt generator. All are great products.

100 Watts? Hmmmm 🤨

I’m in Texas. The Texas sun is about as hot as it gets. The best I’m seeing is 55 watts at High Noon. 100 Watts? I don’t think so. And no, I’m not using the extender cable. Just the cable that came with the panel directly into my Yeti 3000x.

Boulder 100’s Chained/Installed on Remote Cabin

I purchased two of these then chained and installed on roof of our remote cabin. Using GZ mounting brackets I attached directly to our metal roof and used 30’ Anderson cable to run down and into cabin to Yeti 1000. Even though roof/panel pitch is only 20 degrees, it takes little time to top off battery and be ready for our use.

Great Solar Panel -- High Output, Easy to Handle

This is a great solar panel. We have now purchased three of them, and they power a set of Goal Zero batteries at a cabin that is off the grid on an island in the middle of a lake. They put out a lot of power, stand up to the weather well, and are small and light enough for one person to handle them with ease. The "kickstand" is a nice feature that we use on one of the panels, and just push the legs into the ground. We used to have some smaller Boulder panels mounted on a wooden frame, but the ensemble was heavy and hard for even two people to manage. The individual Boulder 100's put out a lot more power and aren't difficult to manipulate. Overall, we are delighted with power output and convenience of the Boulder 100 panel.

Solid performance in mostly sunny conditions

On a typical "sunny" Michigan summer day, with a few puffy clouds and our high humidity, these do a solid job pulling in about 60% of the rated max (so, ~60w each). When it's overcast, they fall to more like 20w each. We run the longest cord from these to the Yeti through a window and four panels on a sunny day can power our 7cu ft freezer with power to spare. It's really worth it to reorient them every 90 mins or so. Luckily, they are not too cumbersome to move around.

Great Solar Panels

We bought two for our 1500x. Sets up easy, panels are very efficient, and system works very well overall.

Boulder 100 Solar Panel - Great, but more like 80w

I bought the Boulder 100 because it was the largest solar panel that I could mount onto my roof rack. I didn't end up using the Goal Zero brackets, and instead came up with several designs of my own so that I could mount it, but still have it removable for portable power anywhere I go, for camping, or filming in remote locations, or various outdoor events. The Boulder 100 provides more than enough power than I need to fully charge a Yeti 400 in a single day. It's kinda over kill on that aspect. I probably could have gotten away with a Boulder 50 instead. The 100 charges the Yeti 400 faster than the wall charges does, so I haven't even plugged in the Yeti to the wall since I got the Solar Panel. (because of this, I'm going to be expanding the capacity of my Yeti 400 by connecting a battery in parallel - to capture more of that sun light) The Boulder 100 is built very well and sturdy, and I'm thankful for that, since at it's size it's a bit large and awkward for one person to move around and mount and dismount on my roof rack. I haven't noticed any flex in it. Unfortunately the most that I've been able to get out of the panel, is in the low 80 watt range on a very clear and sunny day here in California. I'm typically getting 40 to 50 watts mounted flat, and 60 to 70 watts pointed at the sun. That so far, is the only downside to this panel. If it was called the "Boulder 80", I think it would have been a bit more realistic. This is the only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5. For the price, I'm very happy with my purchase. I now leave the Boulder 100 mounted on my Nissan Pathfinder, and I leave the Yeti 400 in my vehicle, and don't have to frequently take it out and lug it inside to charge it.

Disappointed

I'm normally pleased w/ most of the Goal Zero products I've purchased, but I was disappointed w/ this one. 100 watt solar panel? - I can place this thing oustide in DIRECT sunlight at high noon (with not one cloud in the sky) and still only pull in about 60 watts max. Where are the other 40 watts? Just seems like I'm being short changed. Paid the full price for 100 watts but only got 60 watts at best. Not a happy customer.
